"The average would have been higher if one of the ravens hadn't thwarted the researchers by figuring out a way to open the puzzle without using a tool "she didn't pick the tool, because she didn't need to."

In Richmond on a restaurant patio watched one of those buggers patiently watching a couple eating their meal and 5 mins after they left the table he/she made a play for the table eating left the overs and taking off with a jam package while no one freaked out. 8)

They are amazing creatures. I've watched a few videos on similar experiments conducted with crows. They too, have more intelligence than most people give them credit for.

Crows, Jays and Ravens are a lot smarter than people give them credit for. There are stories of Ravens guiding hunters to game animals, knowing they will get to clean up the kills.

I've seen Whisky Jacks (aka Grey Jays) open a cooler at a campground in Jasper, and make off with all sorts of food. Packaged meats, cheese, whole eggs. 8O

Not to be underestimated!
