I heard this on the radio, so there's no link, but it's apparently based on a newspaper article if you want to search for it.

Apparently the RCMP went around to Muslim groups explaining (RCMP) or apolotizing (people who were present) why the arrested some terror suspects during the holy month of Ramadan. As somebody asked, would they explain\apologize why they arrested a Christian on Christmas or Easter?

The guy who runs this program is a Canadian version of Glenn Beck as far as I'm concerned, but he does make good points at times. He has on as regular guest a high ranking US military officer who is also Muslim. This officer's point is that political Islam has to be defeated. I like that term - it broadens the discussion to Muslims who want to make western countries become Muslim. Those are the enemy as well. So if Muslims want to be accepted here, they need to drop that shit and just keep their faith private, out of the public sphere. Good for a Muslim taking this stand - now that's a Muslim speaking out.

And, as I've said, for the rest of us to be able to make that point with validity, we have to do also deal with the political Christians who have the same agenda as the Muslims. Just as corrosive to a civil, open society.

I read the same article, I liked Harper's comments. As I recall he said something along the lines of he didn't want to say to much as he wasn't familiar with the details of the situation, but as far as he's concerned the law is the law every day of the year.

They asked for an apology for arrests made during Ramadan. I had read that the answer to that was NO!

That's from a couple days ago, I think I saw that the RCMP are saying they didn't actually apologize, but my puters really slow right now, so I haven't checked into that yet.

I was going to react to this - in the sense that there's nothing wrong with bringing up other forms of extremism.

But then I realized that Proculation is equating the Muslims to which the RCMP apologized with Nazis, and wow, is that stupid. He's seems to be saying all Muslims are like Nazis. I can only hope that may it was a language thing and he didn't really get who was being given the apology.

As for commies - I've known a few, and some were good people. Unlike nazis, it's possible to be a commie and a decent person.

$1:
The outreach to Muslims following the arrests is being criticized by some Muslim Canadians as blind pandering.

“This e-mail is an indication of how within the RCMP there are officers in authority who do not see the threat Islamism poses to our nation, but unwittingly perform the role of useful idiots,” said Tarek Fatah of the Muslim Canadian Congress.

“Why would they apologize to Muslims for arrests during Ramadan?” one of the meeting participants asked. The person, who did not want to be named, highly doubted police would call a meeting of Christian leaders to apologize for arresting someone on Christmas Day.

Moderate Muslims speaking out against bullshit RCMP PC nonsense?

As that Muslim officer pointed out, the Koran has instructions in how to wage war during Ramadan (presumbably the soldiers are allowed to eat and drink during the day) and in Muslim countries police don't stop their work during Ramadan. This is just the same pc bullshit that was at play during Caledonia.

Gotta admit, a holy book with instructions on how to wage war seems a bit odd to me.

Won't it be nice when the term Muslim countries has as little meaning as the term Christian countries?

Benefit of the doubt goes to language, but we'll see.

I hope that at least my grandchildren's children won't even know what 'Muslim, Christian, Jewish', or whatever is. Except in history class.

But alas...

I don't agree. That would be losing way too much of our heritage, and many people derive benefit from those religions. But if they had to ask the teacher what sectarian violence was, that would be nice. But since the bible goes back a few thousand years, and is full of sectarian and ethnic violence, I bet it will be the same for your descendants.

I was going to PM him as soon as I saw this (give him a chance to retract) but said "Fuck! Let him wiggle himself out of this one". :?

...but as Gunnair said, might be a language issue.
