All things must evolve to survive. This is Canada's evolutionary moment.
I feel Trudeau should apologize on behalf of the Trudeau family, as his Father would have known about these atrocities. His father could have stopped these atrocities.
I'd call for his resignation, but during a pandemic, it's better to vote him out next election.
Every Politician who had a hand in this should be ashamed, we waged wars against oppressive nations that committed genocide against it's own people. We did this while we ourselves committed genocide against our own citizens.
For shame.

DrCaleb DrCaleb: What are you, some sort of radical leftie? Holding people to account for their actions is 'cancel culture' now. It's like the same morons to the south who think calling out people like General Benning for being absolutely horrible human beings (and a shit general too if I remember right) and not wanting a fucking base named after him as "revisionist".

Or tearing down statues erected in the 1950's to remind the people fighting for their constitutional rights that things could be worse.

Tricks Tricks: Seems like an easy response: Investigate the grounds of every residential school for more evidence. Rename/tear down any one associated with the running of these schools New curriculum in history classes specifically about how fucked up these were. Treat it with the same reverence we treat the holocaust.
Pull the responses of every politician who objected to it being called a genocide 6 years ago and repeatedly beat them over the head with their own words. Listening to the talk radio shows today a lot of the pushback is, "Where does it end"? Like pulling that errant thread on the sweater it may end up unraveling the whole thing. So many of our institutions and leaders are up to their eyeballs in blood on this.

So many of our institutions and leaders are up to their eyeballs in blood on this. That's why 'Slippery Slope' is a logical fallacy. It ends when the Church and State admit what they did, do what they can to return those children to their families, and when the State treats every Canadian equally.

It is and it is also an emotional response from people who do not like being such. That's dangerous. If the pope and the PM dither this is it is only going to build up like a pressure cooker.

I'll have a better chance of coming home with the $50-million Lotto Max before that EVER happens, and I never EVER win anything lottery related. But, maybe the kettle will boil over and it'll cost the PM and his inner circle their jobs, as well as the Pope's and most of the Church. Either way, it's nothing I'm going to lose sleep over. -J.

So many of our institutions and leaders are up to their eyeballs in blood on this. If pulling that thread means we learn the full extent of how fucked up this was, then pull that thread all day. Then hold the people who were involved responsible. Whether that means shunning them from any positive remembrance in history, to jail time if they're still alive. I feel like people forget this only ended 25 years ago. There is at least 1 sitting MP that was elected BEFORE all schools were closed.

No one is going to prison over this, at least no one from the administrative side of things. They can't when operating these schools was active government policy, a policy that was still in effect in our own lifetimes. Any charges, if they occur, should be restricted to on-site personnel who were abusing the kids. And it's mostly likely after all this time that the vast majority of those staffers or teachers are all now deceased.
As for the PM resigning over this, why the hell should he? It's really only been the last two federal governments, Harper's and Trudeau's, that have done anything concrete in terms of reparations, apologies, and investigations of exactly what the hell happened in those abattoirs. It's every other Canadian government that preceded the last two that deserve to have a permanent black mark put against their records over this.
One thing that should happen, and after this must happen, is that real history classes need to return to public schooling. Not this nonsense mish-mash called "social studies" that's been taught for the last five or six decades. Real history, not the rah-rah sort of cheerleading & myth-peddling that's made up historical education in this country for far too long. And teach in a way designed to make the students think, and not to turn into either into some kind of ridiculous flag-wearing sap who literally weeps at the thought of "how good we are!" or some kind of bitter angry person who hates the country and themselves either. That has to be the point of it going forward, strictly facts covering both the good and the bad. We can't afford to have either type of individual becoming the dominant strain of Canadian as time passes because that would ruin the country.
The truth will set us all free. That's all we've ever really needed, and we need it now more than ever.

COVID's subsiding enough that Kenney can now do sort of typically obnoxious right-wing things to reach out to The Base that was so pissed off at him over the health system restrictions. And unfortunately his base includes a lot of the sort of people who can look at a mass grave on Canadian soil, shrug their shoulders, and say "I don't get what the big deal is" at the exact same time they say "having to wear a protective mask during an epidemic is literally the worst human rights crime ever".
