Why? none of them will get away with it, small towns are amazingly awesome for the fact rumours and names get around in hours, most if not all will be caught within a week or two.

Borders on the Dene Nation. Mostly Native area so the unwritten rules on public disturbances will be going into effect. No one's getting in any trouble with the law for this one. As usual.

I’ve been to La Loche. It’s a small community of mostly Métis and it is bordered by the Clearwater Dene Nation.

The one little motel is surrounded by a chain link fence with barbed wire on top. My first trip there the Motel manager said “If young women knock on your door in the evening do not let them in”. At the time I was young and it took me a while to figure out why women would be knocking on the motel door in the middle of the night. I figured it out, and they were not selling baked goods or beaded jewellery. There were, however, no knocks.

We did check out the bar, there are actually two or three of them. La Loche is sort of lost in time and space, people will wander the neighbourhood at all hours of the day and night like a strip mall on a half busy day. In the one bar we went to all the chairs and stools are bolted to the floor. They only serve beer in cans and shots in plastic glasses to protect patrons. The bouncer was this huge Métis guy and he stood a few feet behind the bar curling 125lbs with each hand. He did that for the whole 45 minutes it took us to have two quick beer and of course we had to buy some of the locals a few as well, just to keep up relations (or I imagine my shining white ass would be running).

The main businesses are the order at the window burger joint which was actually pretty good, and the Saskatchewan Government liquor store. Unfortunately with all the Natives around there were none working at either the motel, the liquor store, the burger joint, the hospital or the school (well the hospital and the school had a small representation).

Once we pulled into town at 2AM, the motel guy let us into the compound, it was like Friday night on Fremont street in Vegas, people milling around, nothing to do, nowhere to go.

They have a Northern Store, ummm that is about it. This news does not surprise me. I’m a pretty easy going guy, but this community is the worst that I have ever seen. No jobs, no hope, no pride. The reserve, if I remember correctly is actually a few steps up from the town.

Been there a few times, I don't recommend that place unless you want to do a reality show on desperation, poverty and crazy.

Two levels of accountability. First Nations and the rest of us.

Actually those people are Metis (mostly). The Indians live next door on the reserve. Make it three :)

Where I taught in northern Manitoba, the 'Metis' community was on crownland and that's where those who got booted off of the rez went to live. Tended to be where the worst troublemakers lived.

Absoulutely brilliant commentary on this documentary. Sir David Attenborough has nothing on him.

Kinda reminds of a joke about small town crime by Brett Butt(I think);
Officer: Can you describe the suspect?
Witness: Uhh, it was Dwayne...
