The biggest thing that hit me when I came to Britain was the lack of dryers. And Electricity meters where you have to swipe a card worth £5 everytime you run out of electricity.

Oh what we take for granted in Canada! lol

What was yours? I think it will be really interesting hearing from everyone in all the different countries!

Black sidewalks?? Seriously???

Funny language difference: White out to me is Tippex to my colleagues. When I shout out for Whiteout I just get a blank look and have to translate :D

Oh the lack of dryers.. what a horrible thing I encountered, too.

Actually, it wasn't only the lack of dryers, but German water in HARD.. and even harder in Berlin... and the detergent is just bad. My whole wardrobe feels like sandpaper and rock. I got one of those team Canada things from HSBC when I was in Canada for Christmas and after the first wash here, it was completely destroyed.. the Olympic logo is half missing now

Or the really bad produce.. I miss fresh bananas from Central America or strawberries from California.... or oranges from Florida :(

German music is really funny though... I have to admit, Schlager has started to grow on me.

Oh I really feel for you Andem, in regards to Laundry, I really do! Scotland has really soft water though and as a result when I hang my stuff up to dry, it goes all stiff. It's like you have to add double the amount of fabric softener to get the same effect you'd have as if you put clothes in a proper dryer!

Britain gets a good selection of fruit, and one of the things I noticed was that a lot of the fruits that we get in season in Canada are year round here because they come from Spain or Portugal.

How is the meat over in Germany? I miss Alberta beef.

Ugh.. Meat is alright I suppose. A lot of the beef comes from South America, which strikes me as odd that they don't import it from England (do they produce it?) or Alberta even

This country is crazy for pork, but the bacon REALLY sucks. Its cooked after 30 seconds on the burner.. its thinner than paper.

South American beef??? I just physically shuddered. :/

Most of the beef in the UK comes out of Scotland. Aberdeen Angus is reknowned world wide...right up there with Alberta A beef!

At Tescos here I found Canadian maple cure bacon!! That stuff is WICKED.

How would you like it if you had to wash your clothes in cold water near a strean like my wife and I had to do when I was in the Phillipines years ago.

Plus, no hot water to have a shower!!!!!!

I have done before denms, growing up in northern Alberta. We'd go camping for weeks, but would have to wash our clothes in the river and use sand to scrub. That was pretty rustic, but when you're a kid, it doesn't matter.

No hot water for a shower would seriously suck. I don't have a shower here and I miss it dearly.

Can not order gravey on your fries down here. You can try, but people just look at you like you are an alien.

I like gravey on my fries. :( Slowly getting used to ketchup.

The weird thing is you CAN get gravy on your biscuits and gravy with your grits, in the southern States.

Then again, you can't (generally) get catsup for your fries in France, but you can get mayonaisse for them.
