Hi all:
Firs time poster. This forum is great!
I am living in FL planning on a move to BC (Vancouver) next year. I have some questions for you all - your input is appreciated!
1) If you are a Canadian who's lived/living in the USA, what do you see the major differences are (culture/work)?
2) What do you like better about Canada?
3) What does Canada have to offer that the US doesn't?
4) If you are a Canadian, do you have any desire to live in the USA?
5) If no, why not?
Thanks a million for your responses! I am movng mainly because I was born in Canada, I have family there, its my homeland. I want a fresh start. Any advice you can offer me I would appreciate.

1) Well Vancouver has a large Asian population that makes up almost half the city so you might not be used to that. Unless you are an Asian or of non Anglo-Saxon origin.
2) Well I have only been to the United States a couple times so hard to say. But I like our parliamentary system, people, history, and language better.
3) I guess it depends what you want. If you want to be rich don't come to Canada. Or if you plan to go into the very high academic fields of medicine and science because I believe there is more money in the United States for that. Speaking as the whole country it is relatively safe, can raise a family, taxes are not too high, and with hard work you can achieve pretty much anything. Although Vancouver is kind of expensive but if money is not a problem then you should be fine.
4) Not really.
5) From what I saw it is not bad to visit but it isn't home and I don't think I would ever feel at home there or ever would become an American.

It's pretty here.
We are very diverse.
Hockey is the best sport ever.
Our food is great.
We have totally kick-ass cities.
It's just better.

you are wrong, there has been a reverse brain drain lately. During the 90's the numbers going to the states peaked around 2000, but since then the numbers have dropped drasticaly, and people are coming back now. Canada is now kinda a haven for scientific research and medicine. Some of that has to do with easier political climate for certain research, funding, 9-11 played a roll. They had a news piece about this the other day on CTV. $1: Well Vancouver has a large Asian population that makes up almost half the city so you might not be used to that.
ITs funny people that don't live here seem to always imply this is a bad or strange thing. If you have lived in any major coast city, this is the case. He comes from Miami, there hispanic population is probably of simular percentages. Its the reality of our 2 countires being immigrant nations.

Who is coming back? From the states? Doubtful, maybe the ones like tritium. Most people coming here are from other countries China, India, Pakistan, Philippines, and South Korea. I'm just saying you will make more money in the United States than here for advanced studies. After all even as a doctor you make twice as much in the United States than here.
Yes the Chinese and Hispanics are so similar... That’s really an insult to both of them and trying to link their population stances as if it is the same thing is very ignorant and stupid. Also not everyone might be used to coming to a country founded primarily by European peoples and expect to see almost half a city with Asian inhabitants. Its good to tell people for many people I have talked to think 90% of Vancouver is of British peoples. I met with tourists coming here from the Netherlands and thought they were in the wrong country because of all the Asian people here. Is it a bad thing? In my opinion I don't think the European population in Canada should be totally displaced. Nothing wrong with immigration but when it becomes too excessive I think then there is a problem.

Well you aren’t a Latino then arctic just a mongrel Frankly comparing the Chinese to lets say Columbians would be like comparing I to the Vietnamese.
