1700-1800 era combat with Naval combat making the 1st real impact in the Total war franchise with 10,000 troops under your command at a time. Napoleonic style mass battles will look very cool. I played Shogun and Medieval II: Total War both were amazing, this looks to be out early 2009.

I am a big fan of the Total War games, played every single one of them. Medieval: Total War, Medieval: Total War Viking Invasion, Shotgun: Total War, Rome: Total War, Medieval 2: Total War and Medieval 2: Total War Kingdoms.
I still play Rome: Total War, and Medieval 2: Total War + Kingdoms. Very good games. It has always been the ultimate strategy game, in a very fun way. If you are a gore fan, then you will love this game. Expecially Medieval 2: Total War. Thousands of dead bodies everywhere after a battle is finished. The fighting is completly realistic, each soldier acts as a individual. When a enemy charges at him, he will turn his head then face him and fight him in the mist of 1, 000's of other soldiers fighting each other. Swords going through a enemy, or axes being swung at enemys as they are wounded on the ground.
If you want as well, although it requires a good PC for it. You can turn on blood effects, which makes it all that much more great.
The Campaign is off the hook, the best time I have ever spent on any games single-player. I usually hate SP for games, and go straight for MP but not these games. This game is all about the Single Player Campaigns.
The only thing I thought it missed was actual naval battles, you had naval battles in the previous games but you could only Auto Resolve it and not fight them. It was all about Land Battles. I love that they are bringing naval battles into the game.
If anybody is a gamer, I suggest you buy this game. A long with Medieval 2: Total war, Kingoms and if you want even. Rome: Total War. Definetly worth the money, and will occupy your time for years.

Yeah, I'm also waiting for that game. Looks good, and if it keeps the spirit and playability of predecessors, plus the sea combat would be good, it can be best game about that history period.

Empire: Total War is including the American Revolution, so there will be a America Campaign Map (For all you Americans). For all you Canadian's, I think the Canadian Militia might also be present in the game. Either as a recruitable unit by the British or as a recruitable mercenary. If not, than I will have to kill them.
It will start as British Controlled Territory (You will have to play as the British), than all the Territories will riot (Much like Barbarian Invasion, RTW as the Western Romans). As the british you have to try to and prevent the riots however I believe the Revolution in the game in inevitable. After the revolution begins, and you are playing as the British. You have to pick which side to fight for, as the British or as America. I believe you start out with really weak ass units, so expect to get slaughtered but after awhile of research you can finally get some decent units to fight the red coats.
The Campaign will spread to the Middle-East as well. As far as India.

I loved Rome: Total War(it was the first total war I played) and now I'm hooked on Medieval II and Kingdoms.
"Oh, Milan totally did not just break off our alliance and attack Marseille...I'm gonna kill those motherfuckers..."

Milans always the pest in M2:TW. It's like a faction designed to piss you off. First thing I always do is kill off Milan by shutting off it's trade (Blocking Ports), hurting it's economy any way I can. Than when I get to them, tell the pope to piss off and kill Milan.

Man, there have been several times when I've formed a "Fuck-Europe League".
First time, it was the "ex-Communicated League" where it was me(Spain), the Holy Roman Empire and Milan just tearing the Pope and all Catholic nations new assholes across Europe. I even took over Rome and killed the Pope, along with several Inquisitors.
Second time was the first real "Fuck Europe League", where it was me(Moors), the Byzantines, and the Turks just royally fucking up Europe. I was conquering places like mad, but sicne I had so much gold and trade, I just kept bribing the pope into alliance and love. Then when he and Sicily decided to try and turn on me, I made Italy my bitch all the way up to Venice. The Byzantines were all like: "Fuck you, Hungary) and were conquering a shitstorm across Europe, and their vassal state, the Turks, were like: "Well fuck, I guess we conquer Russia then..." Russia's getting her ass kicked, Hungary and Venice are getting their asses kicked, and What's left of France is Paris, and they're my vassal. Those Milanese fuckers are next...

I love declaring open season on the Pope. One of the greatest joys in that game.

If it is as good as the rest of the Total War series, and I have been playing it since Shogun Total War,and that at the time was bad ass, then came Medieval: Total War which kickecked arse, then Rome: Total War and then Medieval II: Total War, and now Empire.
I have been reading about Empire for over a year now. This is going to be one bad ass game. Just the fact of ship to ship combat and the fact that the ship to ship is going to be sorta random because of he ship to ship ....

Oooohhhhh Yeah.
I especially love it when their crusades backfire.
And last weekend I was playing Medieval II, and I was Milan. I got into a war with France(they attacked me first), so I started kicking their asses from Dijon to Marseille. Anyway, after like, two turns, I go to their diplomat and I tell them that I will end the war if they give me 2000 gold tribute each turn for ten turns, surrender all territories except their Capital, pay me up front 10K due to damages suffered, AND become my vassal. Here's the kicker......
They agreed.
France is now Milan's bitch. They surrendered way too easily...

Wow, whenever I try to do that. I usually include offering THEM gold and I still get rejected. You must have gave them one hell of a shit kicking.
Oh and yeah the pope is freaking annoying as hell, when I first got the game. I was so exited to play as a Christian Nation as they got all the best units, artillery, and upgrades. I now wish there was atleast one middle east country (Maybe Byzantine) with a decent military capable enough to match 1:1 with the europe units because the pope makes being a Christian nation annoying, everything you do is wrong. If you attack another christian nation, the pope gets angry at you. If you do it too much he excommunicates you and every christian nation is free to attack you.
Everytime I play a muslim country, they got such weak ass infantry that it makes it impossible to siege a fortress with any form of un-horsed knights in it as they just get slaughtered way too easy. I got to rely on pure horse power which sucks because they almost always carry spearmen and heavy anti-horse units with there army.
I hope Empire: Total War doesn't have the annoying dude preaching to you about what you do, I hope it has a more Rome: Total War feel to it. Where there is no head master telling you what you can or can not do.

Not even! I had just pushed them out of my territory, took Dijon and Marseille, and was laying siege to Toulouse!
They surrended without much of a fight. How typically French.

A HUGE fan of the series. Been playing the games since Shogun was released. For the first time in the Total War series, Sweden is playable so I'm especially exited about this one. I was a bit disappointed that they just skipped 200 years of european/world history and decided to have this one play out in the 18'th century. But now with Sweden playable, it's all good.
