As the name suggests, who's your favourite hockey player? Hell, if you'd like, you can even say why!
I'll start, mine's Doug Gilmour. He's played for the Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens, and he's not a particularily amazing player like Rick Nash or Joe Sakic, but I have a tendancy to root for the people in between Legend and Crap.

You forgot to mention that Doug won a Stanley Cup with the Calgary Flames in 1989. Something he was never able to do with the Laffs.

Don "Big Bird" Saleski. He played for Philadelphia in the 70's, and was one of the goons who made the Broad Street Bullies who they were. He wasn't much of a scorer, or skater, but when he went into the stands in Toronto to kick some fan ass, I was forever a fan of his.

That was an awesome move hey Lily......the goalie HAD to be thinking Mario was gonna take that shot! By far the best "non" play I have ever seen!
I also liked Dougie......remember when he lost his stick in the stands and the fan gave it back to him..then he scored that goal! I don't know what game that was...or even when, but that was cool.
The Moose was my fav.........Mark Messier.......if he didnt score a goal...he'd kick the poo out of ya! ![boxing [boxing]](./images/smilies/box2.gif)

I think Mario Lemiux is the best player ever. Playing through injuries, after cancer, etc, etc.
I do have one knock against him though, when he turned down the opportunity to play for Team Canada in 1983 so that he could play junior hockey and break those records.

My mistake... The year was 1982, which was NOT the year he broke the records. He did play for Canada in 1983 when he set the record.

I only have one problem with Gretzky... He's a bloody sellout. Coaching Pheonix? What the fuck is that? Don't you think he might wan't to coach the Oilers, the team that made him gamous, or any team other than Pheonix... He's a greedy, greedy sellout. But a great player.
What about Rick Nash? If anyone watched the IIHF mens, Rick Nash was amazing. He's like what, 20? Did anyone else see the breakaway goal againts the US? That was the most amazing goal I've ever seen!

I like "the mulet marval" as well! aka Ryan Smyth...........and Gretzky isn't a sellout....he freaking own the Cyotes....if he's going to share his knowledge base with anyone...it would be the team he owns, not his competition! Anyhow...Gretzky belongs in Betmans seat IMHO...not behind a bench.
Burnaby Joe......yeah gotta give him some credit too......Him and Iggy(plus supporting cast) brought us that nice shinny medal not that long ago......
Side note about Mario.....when I watched the Womens Team win the gold.....they showed Mario in the stands...along with Theo...the only two mens players I saw at that game.

Three favourites:
-The Great One for his talent.
-Guy Lafleur: The flowing hair, the style - poetry on ice.
and finally....
-Don Lever - seriously! - I don't remember anything about him - he was mostly before my time but when I was a kid I had a Don Lever hockey card and the photo of him looked cool - and his name sounded real cool too. When we'd play street hockey each of us would assume the name of an NHLer and there would be fights over who could be Don Lever.

Yah I kinda favour more towards Ryan Smyth myself, what a trooper. Not because he is that great of a goal scorer, he actally plays hard and digs down deep, tough gritty action. You watch him and you feel that this guy actually wants to play hockey, not for money, although if he turns into a superstar and his ego inflates, who knows. I feel sorry for him after the last WHC and many people were disgusted by his actions.
