We need to get our asses in gear with the switching of provinical status of the territories then we can either take this to the U.N. for resolve due to a hostile take over or confront the Danes about this. Either way, something must be done before all of Northern Canada is Danish.

I agree. If anything comes of this 'silent hostility', and denmark annexes any of our northern territory, we won't be able to react for weeks. During the cold war our army and navy performed numereous sovereignty and 'show-of-force; exercises in the north, but now due to budget cuts we have lost our ability to respond effectively to any northern invader...

An arctic exercise was held last summer in the north, no doubt a show-of-force against any unwelcome Danes.

What real forces could the Danes put in place and that is one hell of a long line of supply rather easily cut. This just poltical posturing so the lawyers have ammo in poltical dispute. I cannot imagine the Danes sending in any form of hostile military focr with an eye towards fighting and if it did I cannot imagine any surviving.

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that the Navy's future JSSs will have ice-strengthened hulls, making them suitable for arctic operations. This could be very useful regarding Hans Island.

Canada should get their ass in gear on that one... Denmark sends ships very often in our north... Usually Aurora's escorts them out.

Why not a few low passes from some 18's with a full rack of harpoons? just to make a point of course.

That would be the typical American answer to this...
Very Un-Canadian...

The JSS will not be able to operate in the Arctic...it's ice classification is set to only be first-year ice, so at most it'll make it to Baffin Island as far as I understand.

Edit: Sea Ice Classification (Canadian Ice Service):

First-year Ice
Sea ice of not more than one winter's growth, developing from young ice, and measuring 30 cm or greater. It may be subdivided as follows:
Thin First-year Ice / White Ice - First Stage 30-50 cm thick
Thin first-year Ice / White Ice - Second Stage 50-70 cm thick
Medium First-year Ice 70-120 cm thick
Thick First-year Ice Greater than 120 cm thick

As you can see, if you're going into the Arctic during the winter with First year ice hull strength, you're not going far.

Showing force maybe unCanadian but that does not mean it is wrong.
Just a lil flexing to show that this will not do is all.

If it's hard for us it's hard for them. This silly flag waving of the danes should be dealt with in a more forceful but peaceful manner by our politicians. if their is no responce to that and they send so much as a cap pistol into out territory then game on.

The main advantage the Danes have over our navy in the arctic is that their surface combatants are ice strengthened for Arctic voyages...they stand a far better chance of being able to secure the disputed island with a decent sized force, though don't get me wrong, in the long run, Canada would kick their ass off it.

edit: meant Danes, not Dutch....those Duitch eh, they're bloody evil

I agree with Fred in that we need to hold a higher military presence in the North, more show-of-force operations, and our ability to bomb their asses if they enter our waters.

Hopefully (and probably) this situation will be dealt with diplomatically, but if it doesn't, then my attitude towards these 'northern excursions' is to piss off or wreak the consequences :!:

(Unfortunatley, our military doesn't have the capability to back my opinion  )
