Hot Summer Threatens Efficacy of Mail-Order Medications

$1:
The temperatures inside delivery trucks can reach twice the recommended threshold, but federal rules on drug storage conditions do not apply to the booming world of mail-order delivery.

Snow Crab Collapse Due to Ecological Shift in the Bering Sea

$1:
NOAA Fisheries scientists attribute the abrupt collapse of snow crab in Alaska to borealization, or an ecological shift from Arctic to sub-Arctic conditions in the southeastern Bering Sea due to human-caused climate change.

Cold-adapted species like snow crab are well suited to Arctic conditions. However, when borealization occurs, the ecosystem shifts to subarctic conditions that are less conducive to snow crab survival. Instead, they favor warm-adapted species and temperature marine ecosystems.

As stupid as it sounds, that is one thing I almost agree with.

Paper straws sound good on paper, but they use more energy and carbon emissions to make than plastic ones do. I don't know about you, but because they fall apart so quickly, I often need two paper straws when one plastic one would do. I'd far prefer we used biodegradable plastic straws than paper straws.

I can deal with wooden cutlery and other plastic replacements (or bring my own from home), but I really hate paper straws.

I only use straws when I eat fast food, and only if the drink comes with ice.

I prefer not to use them at all.

To the astonishment of forecasters, a tiny hurricane just sprang up near Cuba

$1:
A hurricane so small that it could not be observed by satellite formed this weekend, surprising meteorologists and even forecasters at the National Hurricane Center.

Hurricane Oscar developed on Saturday near Turks and Caicos, and to the northeast of Cuba, in the extreme southwestern Atlantic Ocean. As of Saturday evening, hurricane-force winds extended just 5 miles (8 km) from the center of the storm.

This is not the smallest tropical cyclone—as defined by sustained winds greater than 39 mph, or 63 kph—as that record remains held by Tropical Storm Marco back in 2008. However, this may possibly be the smallest hurricane in terms of the extent of its hurricane-force winds

Study: Warming has accelerated due to the Earth absorbing more sunlight

Turns out reducing pollution also reduces cloud cover, and cloudless sunny days increase overall temperature which is made worse by El Nino and carbon dioxide concentrations.
