For the first time in the history of this championship a team has completed the round robin with a perfect record then gone on to win the 1 - 2 Page Play-off and the Gold Medal game. Team Canada did it today beating Russia 8 - 3.

Congratulations to Team Canada. Rachel Homan, Emma Miskew, Lisa Weagle and Joann Courtney curling out of the Ottawa Curling club represented our country with skill, perseverance and total determination and having done so are now the World Champions. Well done ladies, really well done.

Man I made all the up dates all week, stay up until, until 3am this morning trying to watch the final live, the sugar girl finally had to get up and carry me to bed at the 5th end break.

And now I'm up to see who won by watching the replay, and I take a glance through here and Mo posts the winning story even before the rebroadcast is over.

Mo Mo Mo

Watching the way that team performed together was almost like witnessing the supernatural.

Rachel and Emma strategized and established priorities without complaint in a way that bordered on psychic.

I smiled watching Joanne Courtney hover over the two leads as they decided what needed to go where, making no comment but understanding enough of the buzz of the head bees to know the demands of their decision then passed it on to Lisa without comment again, and they would supersweep the rock to the exact point where it needed to go.

That was just a great competition. If you were a Canadian, I mean...

Courtney is the ice expert, if she heard a plan that the ice wouldn't let them make the shot, she would have gotten involved. If she noticed any change in the ice during the game she would go back and tell Rachel, while grabbing a drink of water.

The domaniate woman's team in the world for sure.

One negative, and I understand because of the expense is TSN pretending that they had their play by play crew actually in China.

Oops............sorry Alta. I was on Beijing time all week too so I do sympathize. I made the mistake of checking up on the latest news before the Gold Medal game and accidentally found out the ladies had done it. Still watched the game as I wanted to see just how good they were in the final.........and they were very very good.

Now I'm looking forward to the Ford Men's World Curling Championship and am really happy to see that it is being held in Edmonton this year which will make watching the draws a whole lot easier on my sleep patterns

First draw is on April 1rst and will feature Team Canada aka Team Gushue vs Team Switzerland.

It was almost as if they were destined to win it all, Fiddle. They had misses here and there but their ability to communicate with each other after every shot and make the necessary adjustments to weight and broom position along with the phenomenal strength of Jo and Lisa or Emma on the brushing always came through for them.

I especially noticed this habit of constantly discussing each throw as opposed to other teams such as Russia most notably who rarely talked with each other except in the hack. I personally think that was many of the other teams greatest downfall. The teams such as Scotland, Sweden and others who were on top of every shot did much better overall then ones who didn't. I have never understood why the Russian skip has chosen such an unusual way of coming out the hack as opposed to all the other teams who use the traditional method of a smooth, straight-shoulder, low-to-the-ice push off. I know that Anna has been successful but that delivery has also let her down. I did feel for her when she hogged it on that important throw in the 8th.

Not to worry Mo, hard not to bang the drums when fellow Canadians exceed at the highest level.
