Lemmy Lemmy: Not necessarily related to the thread topic, but more about gun ownership and CCW laws: how about we perform a study? Why not choose a jurisdiction and try CCWs for tasers? We could even force people to carry them. Let's test the CCW logic by arming citizenry with non-lethal incapacitating weapons and see what happens. If the CCW advocates are right, we should see crime disappear. If not, we should see a lot of people suing for wrongful tasering. You make the assumption that a taser is as good as a firearm.

I sort-of proposed the hypothesis that 30 or 40 people armed with tasers may easily subdue the single firearmed bandit. But you're right that I make an assumption: the assumption I make is that, if we arm the public with weapons, a lot of fuckheads will escalate minor problems that would have ended/been settled/diffused without serious violence into situations resulting in the use of those weapons.

Interesting idea however since Tasers are considered non-lethal people would likely be more willing to pull and use them I'd think.

Terrible. They probably don't even have any scissors in the house so that their children could never run with them.

Too many of them would start zapping each other for laughs, like they were auditioning for the next Jackass movie.

Benn Benn: Interesting idea however since Tasers are considered non-lethal people would likely be more willing to pull and use them I'd think. But I thought an armed citizenry is supposed to reduce crime? The fact that tasers are non-lethal should make them even more effective in having the general public taking down criminals in the act, shouldn't it? That's the logic that CCW advocates are backing. Thanos Thanos: Too many of them would start zapping each other for laughs, like they were auditioning for the next Jackass movie. Yeah, but if the trade off is eliminating armed robberies, isn't that a net-gain for society? That's what Ted Nugent and the NRA nuts would have us believe, isn't it?

Yeah, but if the trade off is eliminating armed robberies, isn't that a net-gain for society? That's what Ted Nugent and the NRA nuts would have us believe, isn't it? Don't know. I live in the real world and as such have no idea as to how the Nugents and NRA types think. I believe that any non-criminal or non-mental defective has the right to own a firearm. Note that because I generally disallow the mentally ill these means that by default I disqualify the paranoiacs, the psuedo-patriots, and the rabid government-haters from weapons ownership. Note also, even though they don't appear to be inclined towards weapons possession, I also would include the batshit lefties on the disqualification list as much as I would the batshit righties.

True. In the end if you allow citizens to carry (insert weapon here) the bad guys will just arm up to prepare for it.

Though I propose that most bad guys are cowards that prey on those weaker. Give some fight and they'll look for a weaker victim.
