There is an oddball side of China who believes that their destiny is to return to China's ancient Imperial borders (thus justifying the occupation of places like Tibet). They did extensively explore the World's oceans with great fleets in the late Middle Ages and, perhaps, there is some addle-minded old Chinese nationalist who thinks that the whole Pacific is a Chinese lake.

Ice breaking ASW ships? No icebreaker could undertake ASW operations, at least not in ice. You wouldn't be able to airdrop torpedoes nor use any kind of conventional launcher to fire them from the ship. I imagine the ice would make short work of a hull mounted sonar dome and a towed array would suffer a similar fate.

Not really. Thousands of corrupted Beijing officials in high positions keep their children and wealth in USA and Canada, in case the situation turns bad. So they do know how crazy and stupid they are.
I don't think the muslim fundamentalists do something like this.

Nothing creepy about it. There is a lot of pride and history behind those symbols. Just because they lost and were declared the bad guys by the winers doesn't mean those symbols should be erased.
