Why would Steven fire him when he believes exactly the same thing. He comes from the same Randian wing of the party as Moore. Steven is just smart and disciplined enough to never say such a thing out loud.

Insensitive thing to say, and illustrates his lack of refined political savvy. He could have stated what he meant in a far less vicious way. Of course it was taken out of context, but as a politician you have to be a little more diplomatic, especially when you are kicking the most vulnerable in society to the curb.

This is great blackboard material for the opposition. Not too difficult to paint the entire party with the "mean" brush down the road by re-quoting this.

Hey, he as a right to his opinion and the freedom to speak as he wishes. With so many people struggling right now and parents having to watch their kids go hungry more often than they would like, it cannot go over well when someone from the ivory tower fires an arrow.

Fuckin lousy Soviet bastards.

You think that "every man for himself" is a good place to be? This is one of the very richest coutries that has ever existed snd to allow child poverty to exist at all is a measure of our collective ineptitude.

There is no excuse for a minister of the Crown to utter such grubbing, grasping stupididty. This man has no class. This is, unfortunately, what the "Reform" part of the Conservative movement looks like .. guilesss loudmoth assholes. Fire him, Steven.

Yahoo.

I'm almost completely certain that Thanos was kidding.

But I can't really be certain about that, which is generally how I feel about much of his craziness

Posted from cell phone. Forgot to use emoticon to denote applicable smarminess. Also, Hitler vs the TeaBirchers. (craziness? who? me?)

Moore is supposed to be one of the smarter ones so it's disappointing to see him get caught in a bad moment of Randroid bafflegab. All he really needed to say was the basic truth, which is that the feds are providing the funding but the provinces and localities are supposed to provide the service, and that another big federal government program really isn't needed if the other levels are doing their part of the job right. Normally Moore's quite on the ball in his current portfolio so this episode is actually kind of a major fuck up on his part. :|

He also has some instincts for what might get him elected ... or not. These guys are looking less electable every week. The opposition parties are no great shakes either but they have nothing to loose.

It's everyone's job to feed a hungry child.

Right. So what have you done to feed someone else's child?

I try and do my bit.

Just pay your taxes, and push your govt to feed and look after the children. Much better than having to depend on the whim of others, get a lots at Christmas, not so much the rest of the year. Push for breakfast and lunch programs in all schools.

Parliament, in a unanimous vote in 1989, voted to end Child poverty in Canada by the year 2000.

Good job.

It most certainly is his job.

That got thrown under the bus with everything else in the 90s in the name of deficit reduction (AKA austerity).

It should have been tackled when by the Liberals when they got our house in order - and frankly I'm a little surprised it wasn't. After Harper won in 2006, it should come as no surprise that nothing was done as the Conservative Party doesn't consider poverty part of its mandate/platform.
