I think it all depends on what part of the country you live in to gauge whether or not Flaherty's number is accurate or not.

The economy sucks. Of course the finance minister is going to try to paint it rosy ,no matter how hard.
I've never thought a government, any government can actually aid the economy that much, other than focus on municipal and government employment, health care in Canada

They screw things up ,and make it difficult to keep up the job numbers.

This focus on the middle class is starting to drive me mad.

There is a middle class thats not exactly struggling. Good times, vacations ,reno's, houses almost paid up, the works .

But thats pretty thin if you look across the whole country and see those that are house poor, hockey poor, apartment living, basement living, living with their parents.

It's not pretty, and this credit problem is due to people living off credit cards and using credit cards to pay credit cards to keep a usable balance of a hundred bucks a month in order to live. it will fall apart and thats nagging.

With the amount of wealth in the ground in Canada we should all be living the life of Riley. And I don't mean social assistance.

Permanent municipal and government jobs with huge security and a nice life for those that want to work could be the norm.

Instead they want to fire postal workers.
When the government provides a huge swath of government based jobs , then they are doing their job.
We have enough in the ground to support a decent lifestyle for those that want to work and not take sick leave or go on unemployment insurance.

Why not eh.
The spin is ,this is government waste. Paint it with a welfare brush and people scream yay!!!

We could have been a real great place to live, now it's a struggle and 3 part time jobs for mom and four for dad.

Middle class, yeah we have one, but in reality those that we look to as middle class would be considered upper class with the jobs they hold and the salaries they take home.

The same BS is going on in the US where the administration adamantly denies that any jobs are being lost due to Obamacare and that unemployment is 'low' due to the way they cook the books - meanng that actual unemployment nationwide is still hovering around 22%.
