What's with his horn missing?

IIRC, they did that to all of the remaining Northern White rhinos so that poachers wouldn't kill them for their horns. That way they could go extinct from old age instead. :(

Fucking Heart Breaking!

Thanos Thanos:
Going by the look in it's eyes it looks like it's heart is missing as well, probably because on some level it realizes it's the last of it's kind. Nice job, humans, at managing to make the world that much more of a horrible place.

He knows and with Cecil's death nothing will change. Thanks to Humans (US) these animals will become a faded memory in a picture because there's no Jurassic Park to bring them back.

At some stage in the near future the only other non-human creatures that will be left on this planet will be the animals we keep as pets or raise for food. That right there is the only legacy the human race will leave behind it, in the deliberate and maniacal destruction of anything and everything we can cause harm to. Walter Palmer isn't an exception. He's practically the poster image for our entire fucking specie. Malice, greed, stupidity. That's all there ever was and that's all there will ever be.

We all have it comin', kid. Man, do we all ever have it comin'.

The problem with your idea is that these game hunters are all too often an important source of revenue for the national parks and wildlife preserves of developing countries. In the properly managed countries the authorized kills are animals that biologists designate for culling anyway. If a game warden does the culling then that's revenue the park or preserve is going to lose. But the culling has to happen no matter who does it.

Losing that revenue means a hastening of the extinction of many species especially in Africa. Why? Because the Chinese want any number of animal parts for their traditional medicine practices and the Africans have a growing hunger for what they call "bush meat".

And the decline in revenue means fewer game wardens and less equipment for the game wardens that remain on the job.

The rhinos, elephants, and gorillas will go first.

Say bye-bye to the rhinos, elephants, and gorillas ... don't forget the tigers, too 'cause there are a whole lot of filthy rich, well armed ,Yanks with empty wall spaces and a firm belief that they answer to no one.

BartSimpson BartSimpson:

Then ban all trophy hunting starting with trophy hunting in Canada.

Absolutely. The concept of hunting animal in order to turn its corpse into decor is sick and perverted. Remember "Buffalo Bill" sewing a woman suit for himself? The ultimate trophy hunter ...
"Silence of the Lambs" was a work of fiction. Please don't argue policy based on what you saw in a movie.
Okay, Dad.

You mean like the Yemenis who make "manhood daggers" out of rhino horn? Heap big jou-joub. I wonder when Mohammed told them to kill all of the rhinos?

Amazing. So in the case where a cull is needed for the health of the herd you guys are okay with a game warden killing the animal and getting paid for it but you're not okay with someone else doing it and paying handsomely for the privilege because he or she might enjoy it.

I hope you all plan on having your countries pony up to replace the needed funds to keep these game reserves operating.

This is more than about one lion, Humans are driving every living thing on the planet that isn't a pet into extinction which we will pay for.

I agree. Which is why I, a non-hunter, can get past my emotional response to see the importance of game hunting in preserving these animals.

It may seem paradoxical but game reserves were the forerunners of wildlife preserves and national parks.

And especially the case in Africa if the money isn't there for the game reserves the Africans will literally eat the large mammals into extinction.

The place is so corrupt that it's going to happen, anyway.

Question is, how do we disarm all of those Yank kooks who believe in exceptionaslism in everything that they do, everywhere?

And yes, this IS about culture. This sort of sh1t all comes from one part of the planet vat this point in History. A century ago, you cold pointed the finger at a Brit or a Belgian but right now, it is most likely to be an American acting like Neanderthal with impunity (and perhaps a Russian. They also think that they rule the planet.)

Without the sacrifice and devotion of Africans these animals would have been extinct years ago. Some of them are truly amazing people and I met some of them in Kenya a few years back.

Not every hunter is a kook and if that's where you're going to start your argument from then you can expect resistance just because of that.

China is the biggest problem with poaching across the planet. Even in Canada the #1 reason why people poach bears is to send the gall bladders to China.

100,000 elephants were slaughtered for the Chinese ivory market per National Geographic last year.

Russians love tiger pelts.

Africans eat bush meat because it is both cultural and because it reportedly tastes good.

The odd Western hunter who pays $50,000 or more for the privilege of killing an old, sick, or lame animal is helping to keep the other animals alive.

In the case of this dentist this may yet turn out to be a case of hype where he had the permit and his act was lawful. How the hell would he know this was Zimbabwe's national pet lion anyway? It doesn't make sense to me.

As to removing the collar or tag from the lion I have heard the safari operators are required to do this.

He's still a piece of sh1t, permit or not ...and its hard to imagine how much force of law is at work when you hold a permit from a government that is as corrupt as there is on the planet.

Think: Somalia ...Haiti ... Pakistan ... Zimbabwe
