This was pretty big news when it was happening. Nobody seems that interested now that they beat the rap.

Wonder why that is. [huh]

Here's some blog background noise. Just for fun.

Maybe because Mike Pence's plane skidded off the runway at La Guardia? I did see it mentioned at the BBC and the Guardian FWIW.

Probable: the prosecutors botched the case, the judge lost control of the court, and it turned into a rural version of the OJ Simpson trial fiasco somehow
Also probable: some kind of jury nullification occurred with a stealth supporter of the group getting on the jury; the judge replaced one juror with an alternate the other day because another juror got mad when they found out the other person had once been a government employee a few years ago

They should also investigate potential jury tampering. Given how these idiots were threatening local officials at Malheur and in the nearest town it's a strong possibility that their outside supporters were also threatening the jury members and their families with "acquit or else" threats. These clowns aren't patriots. They're a fucking Mafia with cowboy hats and assault rifles.

Impossible. Any person or party from the political right-wing is evil and must be eliminated regardless. Any actions, legal and illegal, by representatives of the political left-wing are therefore justifiable.

That's how certain members of this site, and the general public, act and believe.

Well, the real lefties immediately started whining that the acquittal was all because of white privilege. At least I offered three other logical alternatives that weren't based on racial parameters.

Yup. Because the core charges related to denying the Feds the use of the building can hardly apply to a building that's not being used by anyone.

Misdemeanor trespassing, yes.

Felony denial of use when no one was using it anyway? Not so much.

$1:
He noted that police officials essentially allowed the occupation to go on for weeks, during which time law enforcement stayed away and failed to order the activists to leave in any formal manner.

Ammon’s lawyers, for example, noted in court that he was able to leave the refuge and eat at a local Chinese food restaurant without facing law enforcement or arrest. The fact that he and others could move freely in and out of the occupation suggests that the government was not forcibly blocked from carrying out its duties at the refuge, the defense argued.

Sounds like a botched case

True, and that happens when you lay charges for a non-offence.

I mean if they wanted to charge somebody for impeding workers from working it might have been an idea to wait until somebody, somewhere at least near the site was - you know - working.

Like remember those Dakota Access Commies and their paid native cohort, jumping the fences onto private property vandalizing equipment and shutting down pumps, harassing workers and security.

Like that.

Keep in mind too that the feds learned from Waco. They aren't going to go in kicking ass when the other side is heavily armed. That's not an endorsement of committing crimes on federal property, that's merely an acknowledgement that the Obama admin wasn't going to oversee a completely unnecessary bloodbath the way Clinton 1 did with the Branch Davidians. As for the dickheads at the pipeline protest the fools there have been plenty aggressive themselves towards the cops, including flying a damn toy drone at a helicopter and trespassing on private property that the state and the property owners have agreed to allow the pipeliners to work on. If a few heads get cracked there then they earned it with their own behaviour.
