The argument was Pence saw the new proposed bill of non-discrimination in employment as conflicting with the constitutional right of freedom of religion described in the first amendment which "prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, ensuring that there is no prohibition on the free exercise of religion."

As American citizens both gay and straight (and believe it or not even Muslims ) have equal rights. Pence appeared to claim he opposed creating a new law perceiving civil rights that could conceivably conflict with prior constitutional rights. He was not condoning depriving anybody of established rights. He's not guilty of what you were accusing him of.

My whole problem with this story is that the people talking smack to Gov. Pence are employees still at their place of employment. You can say the show is over, but they still represent the company as an employee on company property. Its not like they went home, changed out of uniform, and then proceeded to talk smack at an unrelated establishment. The money paying customers at the show are free to boo Gov. Pence, any actors in the show, the producer, the light man, the usher, etc. They are money paying customers. The price of admission gives them the right to voice their displeasure with whatever they choose. The actors in the play however are there to entertain all who bought a ticket. They do not get to voice their opinions on ANYTHING while they are on company property. I am in the same boat. I work in a hotel/ casino. If I see someone wearing a Vancouver Canucks shirt I have to keep my mouth shut. I don't get to say: " wow you guys really choked in game seven back in 2011. You have to be the biggest losers ever!!!!" As a Bruins fan thats what I think, but I have to keep those thoughts to myself. They are there to have a good time, not listen to me talk smack and remind them of their greatest, most humiliating defeat ever. When someone is wearing a shirt that mentions Detroit, I don't get to lambaste them about how I have been to third world shitholes in developing countries that look nicer and are safer than Detroit (not to mention cleaner drinking water). I do not get to berate them on how their city is an embarresment to western man. I don't get to say: "don't you guys ever get tired of voting for money grubbing crooks simply because they are black?". Thats what I want to say. When I step off of company property and remove my uniform (as long as I am wearing that company uniform I am representing the company, on or off the clock) than I am free to voice my opinions on sports, politics, religion, etc. If anyone at my company were to be as rude to a guest as these pretentious asshole cast members of Hamilton were to Gov. Pence, they would be fired. End of story, fired, finito, adios mother fucker. Thats how it should be. Thats what should happen to these pretentious douchebags. No one is paying hundreds of dollars to listen to these assholes lecture them on anything. Read your lines, take your bows, and keep your fucking mouth shut while on company time. Does the constitutional right to freedom of religion not apply much the same way the freedom of speech does? In that the government can not persecute you in anyway for your religious beliefs, or your spoken beliefs?

Private companies don't have that problem. If someone is at work and tells everyone they hate black people, they're probably going to be fired, and there is no ground of defense based on freedom of speech. Does the same not apply for religion? The constitution governs government, not private entities, as we've seen time and time again. No one is stopping them from practicing their religion. Being told not to have a bible at their desk doesn't stop them from practicing.

So there is no conflict, because it doesn't apply to private citizens. Mike pence just hates gay people.

But hey, if you're okay with gay people being refused a job because of religious reasons, are you okay with religious people being refused a job based on moral reasons?
