No thanks, and our current ships interoperate with the USN just fine right now.

This is literally true. :|

We should just get the plans for the Arleigh Burke from the US and build those - they cost $1.8 billion each according to Wikipedia.

If we're going to do that, we may as well just build more Halifax class frigates. They're about equivalent. I'm trying to visualise our navy sailing those thirty years from now. They're already obsolete. There is a major revolution in warship design going on, right now and the Ardleigh Burke is a Buick with big fins.

Don't worry, Ottawa won't build a Burke, either.

Seriously, I used to think the Pentagon's procurement was a clusterfuck but Ottawa makes the e-ring fucks look like magicians.

It's like getting cheapskate Presbyterians to pay for a big, foo-foo Italian wedding.

Oh FFS! How is a frigate or even a destroyer going to cost $4.1 billion each?!?

We should just get the plans for the Arleigh Burke from the US and build those - they cost $1.8 billion each according to Wikipedia. Even if we add 50% to 'Canadianize' them, they'd still be cheaper.

As for the frigates, the European multi-purpose frigate (FREMM) cost Italy and France only about $1 billion each, and the Aussies are looking at buying them too.

Because it won't. This will be the cost to build, operate and maintain.

And this is the commn theme with all military procurements in te country. When our government settles on a purchase price, they include all anticipated lifetime costs, including cost of maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and even te payroll of the military personelle operating the equipment. It is absurd. If it costs 1.5 billion to build, and 2.6 billion in lifetime servici costs, then the purchase price is 1.5 billion, not 4.1 billion.

Bean counters causing problems where there aren't any.

Let's try capitalism next time, cheapest reliable bidder and all that. The Irvings, Thomsons and other local oligarchs love the Buy Canadian nonsense that gives us world class prices on internet, TV, cell phones and now naval vessels.

Obvious troll is obvious...

Canadian FFHs and DDHs have been integrated with USN carrier task forces dozens of times since the 1990s.
