Cruise ships have thousands of scantily clad women on board. Many are wearing thongs, and sunning themselves topless. How is it that these cruise ships are not turning into one big rape fest if men supposedly cannot control themselves around women who are not covered in burkas from head to toe?

It's not a cruise ship, it's a research ship. Did you never learn to wear proper clothing when undergoing work with heavy or powered equipment? Quickest way to get hurt is getting your tie or watch caught in machinery. That said, cruise ships have guards, and both kind of ships have men who can't behave themselves.

Cruise ships just cover it up better, a point proven in the article where there were episodes of sexual harassment that meant certain men were not allowed to mix with women. Certainly that isn't the fault of the women, right?

I learned a very long time ago that, mitigating the potential for problems is always the best course of action, especially when you cram young men and women into a confined space. So, if dressing like a Huttereite during harvest is what's needed to prevent issues then so be it and if the good lady doesn't agree she could always just find another scientific expedition to join with less restrictive dress codes.

So long as the code applies to everyone, I have no issue.

If just the women have to cover themselves, but the men are free to dress in shorts and no shirts - then we have an issue. Mainly that there aren't enough women in STEM, and those policies won't help that.
