xerxes xerxes:
It'll be interesting find out what actually happened, if we ever find out.
A ship like that shouldn't succumb so easily to two AS missiles unless one landed a lucky hit (which is what I suspect happened)
DrCaleb DrCaleb:
It should take more than two! It has 3 sets of whizz guns on each side. Six shouldn't get past the layered defences!
(Nice shooting!)
The news articles I read said it was HIT by two missiles, not that two missiles were fired at it. It could very well be that the Ukrainians fired a dozen missiles at her, and only two got though.
The pics I've seen of the Neptun mobile launcher has four missiles on it, and if they got two or three trucks close enough to the coast (they can be fired from about 25 km inland), then maybe that's how the Moskva got hit.
Plus we need to keep in mind that the Neptun was developed recently and only deployed operationally last year, while the Moskva was four decades old, and was last refitted almost 20 years ago.
Having said all that, I hope the UKrainians fire off a few dozen more and sink the entire Russian Black Sea fleet.
