DrCaleb DrCaleb:

A glorious sight. Hopefully the same thing happens to every other ship (and tank and helicopter and plane) those popov bastards use.

These things tends to happen when the ship's officers are so corrupt they sell off all the electronics for the anti-missile defense systems and replace them with used pinball game parts. 8)

It'll be interesting find out what actually happened, if we ever find out.

A ship like that shouldn't succumb so easily to two AS missiles unless one landed a lucky hit (which is what I suspect happened)

It should take more than two! It has 3 sets of whizz guns on each side. Six shouldn't get past the layered defences!

(Nice shooting!)

We were distracted by a drone! Or a bird! Or we were all drunk on duty, just like every other day in the Russian military!

Their list of possible excuses is endless.

If we were to go by precedent, then the Kursk disaster is telling.

$1:
A four-page summary of a 133-volume, top-secret investigation [of the disaster] revealed "stunning breaches of discipline, shoddy, obsolete and poorly maintained equipment", and "negligence, incompetence, and mismanagement"

Probably safe to assume things haven't changed too much in the Russian Navy since then.

The news articles I read said it was HIT by two missiles, not that two missiles were fired at it. It could very well be that the Ukrainians fired a dozen missiles at her, and only two got though.

The pics I've seen of the Neptun mobile launcher has four missiles on it, and if they got two or three trucks close enough to the coast (they can be fired from about 25 km inland), then maybe that's how the Moskva got hit.

Plus we need to keep in mind that the Neptun was developed recently and only deployed operationally last year, while the Moskva was four decades old, and was last refitted almost 20 years ago.

Having said all that, I hope the UKrainians fire off a few dozen more and sink the entire Russian Black Sea fleet.

A capitol ship without a screen of ships is a major error right there. It's like having a carrier without any escorts, unthinkable. This is what happens when your running everything on the cheap and resting on your laurels from 40 years ago.

Even if the Ukrainians fired 50 missiles, Moskova by itself should have been able to handle that. The fact that it did not or could not shows the rot in their overall operational effectiveness.

If the Neptunes are the same generation as the Javelins and Switchblades then they should have a massive accuracy advantage. One would have to be a total idiot to miss with them, judging by the war-porn clips of Russian tanks getting nailed. Even more so if the captain of the Moskva was a complete incompetent tool and just sat there like as big of a stationary target as the WTC buildings were on Sept 11.
