$1:
Annette Pollock has a grandson at the school and she also counts herself as among those upset about the kids' inability to sing the national anthem daily inside the classroom.

"He goes to hockey. It's pretty bad when you have to wait for hockey to teach him O Canada instead of in the schools," she said of her grandson.

OMG woman, overreact much?
They are not singing it every day anymore, it's not banned!

My kids don't sing O Canada every day either in school. I don't see why that is necessary anyway. They don't pray in school either. I bet they learn the anthem, but it is not a part of the "daily routine", and excuse me, having an 11 year old saying that "it reminds me of the troups that are all out there"... Is that REALLY what you want the anthem to be?

Is it a big deal? No, not when you consider the big picture. It shouldnt be taken out, but there isnt a point in raising a stink about it either. It would be more benifical to spend 10 min every day teaching the kids about the anthem then the 3 min singing it. It pisses me off to no end when you see some douchebag sitting down with his ball cap on slurping a beer while the anthem is playing at a hockey game.

I was born in Toronto but moved with my folks who were transferred to Chicago at age 6... my first shock was that the Americans didn't sing their anthem in the morning... they do the Pledge of Allegiance... My Canadian school had been Catholic, and although I don't remember if we prayed or not every morning, I remember that anthem singing... it helped me remember where I came from and to take pride in that as I was growing up in the States... (that and summer trips out to the grandfolks in Nova Scotia!)
I also got in trouble in the States for not saying the Pledge with the other children... I would stand and face the Stars and Stripes, but wouldn't speak... after being sent to the principal's office, he laughed and agreed that as a Canadian, I had no need to swear allegiance to the US flag...
Keep the anthem in Canadian schools!

Agreed.

I went to my first NHL game in Toronto where we played the Sens.
The two guys next to me were given their tickets as a benefit for their job.
They couldn't care less about anything, ignorant pricks.

I, obviously, stood up and belted out O Canada like only I can.
Almost in tears as the massive chorus...

Hockey games are beautiful.

I miss having O Canada in school and hearing that chorus everyday.

I'm going to choose to not pull political rhetoric here and assume that
political policies has no connection at all with this.
