What's with the, "this profession is more valuable...no that profession is more valuable" BS that pops up every time this sort of topic comes up?
If any of the professions weren't valued, they probably wouldn't exist as professions.
Is it that hard to say that all professions are valuable to society? As to which profession is
more valuable? Put them in the ring, charge pay-per-view and give everybody a raise with the proceeds.
Actually, if you look at my post and boot's response to it, it's pretty obvious we're having fun with how absurd the whole argument can get.
I remember getting into this very argument in my Gr.13 Family Studies class. And being one of only 3 guys in the class, support was hard to come by
The teacher was taking the argument, "equal pay for equal work" and turning it into "equal pay for work of
equal value". Meaning a female working a particular job should get paid the same as a man doing a different job but "assessed" to have the same value to society. Who made those assessments I'll never know
I finally pointed to the stupidity of the whole argument by challenging her to defend that position with steel workers. "Should a female welder working on the 3rd floor of a building's steel skeleton get paid the same as a male welder working on the 10th floor? Feel free to switch the genders cuz the answer is still the same".
