Acting Pentagon chief Patrick Shanahan said Monday he had authorized $1billion to build part of the wall sought by President Donald Trump along the U.S.-Mexico border.

That all ya got?
The Progressive Socialists and their pet media just keep sliming with any sleazy trick they can pull out their greasy butts to bring the guy down and he just keeps on MAGAing, delivering on his election promises.
Don't get me wrong I'm a fan of the wall but what i'm not a fan of utter ridiculous cost over runs which this latest addition to the wall seems to be. When you look at it this way it seems to be nothing more than a moral victory.
I just can't see where adding 91 km of fencing to a border that is 3145 km long is going to do much even if you combine it with 1041 km of fence that's already there because you still end up with 2013 km of border with no fence.
Then there's the cost. 1 billion dollars for 91 km is nearly 11 million per km a fact which is beyond excessive even for the over charged US military. Something doesn't smell right about the whole thing.
There are problems with a wall. There are benefits. Maybe we should ask Israel which side of that equation overpowers the other.
The fact that it's there is the best argument for it. Those considering walking across the border have to consider what it represents. Think you'll see another "caravan" after it's built? I doubt it, myself.

Nobody disputes the effectiveness of a wall but, for it to be effective it has to be contiguous. If there's a piece here and a piece there then, it's not really effective and that's what's happening now.

I'm not sure where I really fall on the wall debate honestly, but lots of people debate the effectiveness of a wall. I see pros and cons toe very concept of a wall.
What has always irritated me about illegal immigration is both sides could fix the issue tomorrow by simply cracking down on the people and businesses who employ illegals. No one is going to come to a country where they starve from lack of work. But that's the 3rd rail I guess. And before either side blames the other, both the Dems and Reps have never done shit to fix this because the economic effects on business are undesirable.

Again, I'm going to hit you with a vague memory. By all means correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Trump saying in the debates that he wanted to build the wall first then step down on illegal hiring?
Will he actually do it? I don't know. He's been pretty good about at least trying to make good on his election promises, so far, though.

Land has to be purchased and there's also a technical component in that this is not a mere wall but a structure filled with detection technology both through the structure itself and then sensitive seismic detectors that identify tunneling activity.
I'll start with "it's your country, how you spend your money is your business"... but there is a reason we no longer build walls around our cities. The "Great" Wall of China worked some of the time. The Mongolians did find ways around/through it. The Mexicans will too.

The report notes that the number of people illegally crossing the Israel-Egypt border was more than 16,000 in 2011 and less than 20 in 2016, a 99 percent decrease.
It is the security barrier that was authorized and funded over and over by past regimes and never built.
Now it is being built and it will belong to the USA.

Actually, they'd have been better off paying for it in cash instead of paying for it in lost trade and reduced remittances.

Hungary's wall/fence works, too.

We need a wall. And an electric fence. A minefield. Angry dogs. Brutal guards. Maybe even some spitting llamas, too.
