Hong Kong has increased it's population by 2,000,000 since 1997.
The vast majority of those, directly from the mainland.
We abandoned them 20 years ago, we won't don't fuck all today due to the inherent risks of doing anything now (you want the possibility of thousands of Chinese operatives coming over?).
Our only play left is to cut ties, at our own detriment. Which we still have to do.
We all know the score, money talks. Business will be back to normal, or modified to move through intermediaries.

I'm glad we've suspended the extradition treaty and I'd be willing to help out Hong Kong citizens who've lived there for a long time and speak either English or French well.
