This alone would make my seriously consider casting a Harper vote.

Good luck with that. What are we going to do if a Russian sub or US icebreaker or cruise ship doesn't sign up? Send a Ranger on a skidoo to chase them down and give them a speeding ticket? As long as he keeps cancelling his promised defence projects, we have ZERO way to enforce this...

This is political grandstanding just like the Russians planting a flag at the North Pole...

As far as I can see, he's done exactly what Mulroney did...promise big and then cancelling promised defence spending.

What has he done that's so special, other than avoiding the AIDS conference by hiding in Iqaluit?

This wasn't an issue in past Decades, because it was always frozen enough to keep everybody out.

Yeah except the Russian subs go under the ice unlike the ones the liberals bought.

They had to buy something because Mulroney was too damn cheap to buy any subs (and nearly bankrupted us with his insane spending). In the case of our SSKs, something was better than nothing.

What we needed were nuke subs that could opperate under the ice.. and no parties were willing to propose that.

Hwacker: The Libs didn't care about those russian subs, even with their leaky reactors, they just got upset when those "bastard" Americans told them they were going up there. The other reason the Libs didn't care about the north was because there's no votes to be had. They'd be happier building that deep water arctic port in Ontario.
