WILDWOOD -- A father who attacked his 37-year-old best friend and roommate with the butt of a shotgun after finding him having sex with his 16-year-old daughter will not be charged in the attack.
Officials with the State Attorney's Office declined to file charges against the Wildwood father in the attack that sent the 37-year-old man and roommate to Leesburg Regional Medical Center with head injuries.
Bill Gladson, a supervisor with the State Attorney's Office, said the father had the right to use reasonable force to prevent his daughter from becoming the victim of a sex crime.
This was statutory rape so the father was preventing a crime from being committed. One would hope that hitting the rapist with a shotgun was not unreasonable under the circumstances.
Most fathers that I know Seeing their daughters getting raped would have used the shotgun the way it designed and blown his head off friend or no friend.
The age of consent in Florida is 18, but close in age exemptions exist. By law, the exception permits a person 23 years of age or younger to engage in legal sexual activity with a minor aged 16 or 17.

Personally I think Florida has it right, in regards to age of consent. It sickens me every time some 26 year old guy brags about doing his 16 year old girlfriend.

I take it they won't all be living together anymore...
Just wondering... Was it consentual sex?

It's statutory rape so consent is not a factor.

Not if 16 is the age of consent, right?

It says he has been charged with sex with a minor so at 16 she can't have reached the age of consent.

Eh, age of consent varies state by state, so Florida I think is 17, while other states like Hawaii are 14, and Michigan here its 16 (or 17).
So it is quite possible it was statutory rape.
It wasn't loaded, so that would not have much effect.
Maybe just as well for both of them. If he had blown the guy's head off would that have been considered "reasonable force"?

He'd hang for murder.
