After insisting that all of society's institutions and not just the Catholic church must be held to 'exacting' standards in their response to sex abuse of children, Pope Benedict XVI has drawn sharp criticism.
If the Pope were to make a contentious effort to cooperate with the investigation and prosecution of sexual abuse claims which he can do with a phone call rather than stone wall investigations his words would carry more moral weight.
Denying there was a problem, or sheltering the pervs, was the Church's way of dealing with the issue of Father Chester the Child Molester. In fact, they often mpoved the offender to new pastures and helped perpetuate the crime. being a priest was a molesters dream come true...every few years, a new crop of children.
The Church has to first say, mea culpa mea maxima culpa, then it can start pointing fingers. Jesus said suffer the children, but like so many other things Christ preached, the Church twisted it and ended up making the children suffer.
