Thought the plague was a relic of the Middle Ages? Think again. A man in Oregon is said to be in critical condition after contracting the illness long known as the Black Death.
I am given to understand that in England there have been case where in Cathedrals where a number of black death victims were buried and attempts were made to renovate the place that it was discovered that Y Pestis the virus causing the plague is alive and well and has to be handled EXTREMELY carefully.
The virus is very nasty stuff and is very resilient.

At least there hasn't been a case here since 1939.
gophers are carriers of it. It's endemic amongst many of their colonies.
That totally won't get the people in the prairies to panic.

From the article: "Oregon has about one human case a year, while the U.S. as a whole records an average of 11 cases a year, mostly in the South."
