The Viper would have been a better investment.
No objection from me at all if we withdraw entirely from this white elephant. Buy a couple hundred Super Bugs for the next twenty odd years of interim until the F35 has the kinks worked out. In time it will be a terrific plane but the first couple of generations of it are going to be a hyper-expensive nightmare. It's never good to deal with a monopoly and that's what Lockheed's unfortunately been turning into.
It's dead. The new PM said he was gonna cancel the contract and build us new ships instead. So, I wait with bated breath for all the shiny new tankers, icebreakers, Frigates and Command and Control Destroyers as promised.

A craft with air intakes and stubby wings for use in the vacuum of space.
I thought the Navy opted for the hybrid Frigate Destroyer
No, they are planning on building a common hull (larger than either the Iroquois or Halifax hulls) and fitting them with different weapons systems depending on their role (FFH or DDH).

Is Trudeau supportive of this plan? Will he keep the hull numbers at 15?
AS the ships are imaginary things that no Canadian government has any intention of building then they can make up any number of them that they want. Why stop at fifteen? They should say they're going to build fifty of them, finish one, then cancel the program entirely when the costs inevitably spiral wildly out of control.

I don't think they ever quoted a definitive number, but he did mention several times that cost savings from the F-35 would go to building new ships for the Navy - and it was re-iterated by Andrew Leslie (likely the new Defence Minister) on election night.

Trudeau also promised to reduce the size of administration in the Department of National Defence, but he would not say if that meant members of the forces would be laid off.
The military needs “more teeth and less tail,” he said, meaning more money for frontline resources and less on bureaucracy.
He added that he would also immediately launch a review of military spending, but promised to maintain current National Defence funding levels as well as planned increases.

They also were seen to operate in atmospheric environments so the stubby wings were useful at times. Sort of like the space shuttle.
