Hoping for the best and preparing for the worst: A look inside the American Redoubt movement

The American Redoubt is both a movement and an unofficial geographic zone that includes several states. It's a place where Americans who are worried about the future are hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.

Trust me it isn't just these people in the Redoubt who feel this way. I have friends in California and Arizona who think the same as this guy about their Government and their opinion of that Gov't isn't getting any better with this election.

I don't dispute their feelings. This is a fallen age where all the institutions seem to be failing together at the same time. Doesn't mean hiding in the mountains with a bunch of Jeezus-or-else loons would be much of an improvement though.

And that would be why they're still in their communities instead of pulling a David Koresh.

That's actually kind of a good comparison to what happened with the Bundy clowns in Oregon. These usually aren't cases of some group wanting to be left alone in peace and the evil government won't let them. It's more like a highly aggressive group that tries to make themselves the top dog in a small locality. They arm themselves to the teeth, they threaten local citizens and government workers, and behind the scenes they're engaging in illegal activities of the felonious variety (like happened with Koresh who was having sex with all the underage girls in his group). That's why I called the Bundy goofs for what they are, a type of mafia. They, and the apocalyptic bible-thump types, aren't innocent little folks being oppressed by Big Brother. Almost all the time it gets convincingly revealed that they're really just a bunch of goddamn criminals using religion or American frontier mythology as a cover for their deviant behaviour.

Why don't these people all head for Alaska? Or are they hedging...?

Too chilly. And the bears and wolves will fight back, as opposed to the women and kids unfortunate enough to be stuck in the compound with these kinds of "men".
