This is a no brainer: the only reason for this tactic is to include legislation that cannot stand the light of day. It should be construed as deliberate deception of the house and Canadian public.

We don't need a triple E senate, we need zero senate. There's no reason to believe that this or any other policy would be different if there was an elected senate. Heck, there's no reason to believe that it wouldn't be the same Conservative party elected to dominate both houses. The US is an exampl...

Nothing is perfect. At least an elected senate offers the possibility of a buffer from a 'majority' dictator as well as the ability of dumping political garbage that is continually being appointed without any recourse. How well it is run should be the responsibility of the electorate, not the sittin...

1- I don’t like the state being able to manipulate the voting rights of natural Canadian citizens. That is a recipe for fascism. But manipulating the voting rights of unnatural immigrant Canadian citizens is ok then ? Good to know. I thought about that and was going to include a commentary on...

Let the dollar drop and keep the interest rates low. What we need to do is start building and buying Canadian. This country has population mass and the resources, technical and intellectual, to be way more self reliant than we have let ourselves slump into. Ontario will be the hardest hit because th...

Hey, earth to forum: it’s about the wheat board sale, not the price of oil or multinational corporate strategies of oil. Bigger picture: Canada has to stop giving away our country’s national assets. This includes ‘controlling interests’ in these sectors. We can’t stop the more private ‘King Horton’ ...

I think there are a few different takes on the idea of whether or not a Canadian citizen should be permitted to exercise their right to vote in a Canadian federal election. The first is whether or not a sitting government should be able to define the scope of that right. If the right to vote is not ...

For once we Canadians should be a little less typical as complacent, polite Canadians: Make noise, get mad as hell and not take it any more. We have the option, and the responsibility, to demand an end to an appointed Senate, to demand an effective Senate, one of equal representation and not settle ...

Canada needs an elected Senate. It is simplistic, even insulting, to have the ruling party nominate Senators and we have seen the results, over and over and over and over..... A Senate's primary function is to mitigate the possible totalitarian behaviour of a majority government. It is even more imp...

And lets face it folks this is not America ( thank God) where they have a constitutional right to bear arms! I'm for banning hand guns entirely with the exception of authorities having jurisdiction, such as municipal police, government security personnel and formal armed forces. Recognized "we...

Remember the current "Conservative Party" is a re-named Reform Party. Once anyone substitutes the name it becomes apparent as to why they appear incapable of running a country with anything that remotely resembles "Vision". Their only real claim to legitimacy is that they have el...

Global warming is a fact. We don't know enough about how the planet works to be able to say with any degree of certainty how much industrial activity is a catalyst or contributor. Given the tonnage of noxious industrial output, deforestation, ecological transformation and food-chain disruption we ma...

Originally from Ottawa, I have made my home here since 1982. It's a nice place (despite the name sounding like a cartoon) and has gracefully been exempted from the economic recession so many have been suffering. Browsing on the web is not something I have a lot of time for, so I am a novice when it ...
