This differs from other former leaders who would not let these controversial issues come to a vote in Parliament because if they passed it would be the responsibility of the government to implement them in the same way that they would have to implement any government bill. In other words, it is a us...

These are all valid issues. Harper has promised social conservatives that they will be able to push their values in his government through private members bills and he will support bringing these issues to a vote. In this way, he can claim they are not official policies of his government but these v...

I still believe it is difficult to judge their accuracy. If I remember correctly when the Hamm government was elected with a majority here in Nova Scotia he was running in third place in the polls.<br /> <br /> One of the polling companies had their methodology on the internet a couple o...

At one time I seem to have been a target of polling companies. I kept telling them I do not participate in telephone opinion surveys and they eventually stopped calling. After receiving three or four calls I wondered, why in a process that is supposed to be random, that I would have received so many...

It appears that someone changed the topic here but I would like to comment on the original post. The topic is whether the Liberals are progressive. There is no simple answer here because there are progressives in the Liberal Party but it appears that today they have been marginalized. In fact the ND...

How do you personally think you will benefit by destroying Canada?<br /> <br /> We are not quite so naive to believe that we would not be harmed by Quebec independence.<br /> <br /> If you don't believe that if Quebec separated there would be far more "losers" created than "w...

I have heard a humour that Conservative candidates or party workers are not permitted to take part in a form of debate that might "hurt" the party in anyway. This would apply to anyone in any way associated with the campaign.

Why do you think we are governed primarily by a business elite who looks after their self-interest and that of their class? When you look at the suit and tie class think to yourself: "the old boys uniform." We have been indoctrinated to see these people as superior not because of their intellect or ...

Then why do you have problems with all non-Quebec Canadians? It seems your problem is with the Liberal Party. Is that why Quebec is starting to warm to a hard right wing party? <br /> <br /> I have problems with both the Liberals, Conservatives, and NDP but I am not promoting my province...

I will repeat, Harper has not said he will "never" use the nothwithstanding clause neither has Layton. Harper was very specific in saying he would not use the notwithstanding clause on "that issue."<br /> <br /> I did make one error: Martin said he would use the notwithstanding clause if...

The question is whether Quebec is so "different" from other Canadians? Why is it that when Duceppe is not spouting sovereignty he seems to be on the wave-length of Canadians across the country?<br /> <br /> Why would have his party vote against programs to create jobs and affordable hous...

Duceppe had one clear message apart from sovereignty last night as far as I can see and that was his main and only other concern is Employment Insurance. Obviously, he sees that as the biggest issue in Quebec above things like new jobs, affordable housing, child poverty, health care, etc. Are Quebec...

<br /> Stephen Harper never promised not to use the nothwithstanding clause. You have to understand his double talk.<br /> <br /> He says that it is not his policy or his party's policy to use the notwithstanding clause. However, it is his party's policy to allow free votes on soci...
The winner in my opinion was Jack Layton,
<br /> <br /> I tend to agree that Layton did well but Harper also did well by sticking to script. Martin suffers from verbal diarrhea. He tries to get too much out with too many superlatives.<br /> <br /> Although in s...
