Buckley never ran for office. Exactly my point. He would never have been able to get elected. His philosophy got Reagan elected, you're right, but Reagan would hardly qualify as in intellectual in anyone's books. The point of the discussion is that anti-intellectualism is quite strong in the US and...

Dog & Thanos, I wasn't endorsing Ignatieff. I was simply pointing out that a man like him would never be taken seriously in US politics. Like him or not (I do), agree with him or not (I don't) he is a serious Federal politician here. In the US, he might get elected to Council in a university tow...

Thanks all danke schon merci :D @TattoodGirl true the earth is flat in the Prairies so you'd think you reached the edge of the world ;) btw I didn't see the mountains yet :( You know King Ralph said that Edmonton wasn't the end of the earth, but you could see it from here. On 5 October 1973 I was visiting friends. They were solid believers in 'end time prophecies', were laying in non-perishable foods and postponing children because they expected the 'tribulation' at any moment. They gave me Hal Lindsey's 'The Late, Great Planet Earth' to read. Even tho' I'm a very fas...

It will be interesting. The polls show the Nats losing and Salmond has been down playing the referendum. But now that Scottish Labour has joined the call for a vote, the pressure will be on the Nats.

Anybody here love Campbell's Green Pea soup as much as me. Not likely! So what's your favourite canned soup? I love it too! I like to sop my bread in it! Grew up on Campbell's chicken noodle and vegetable beef. I love Campbell's scotch broth, but I haven't seen it in years. Habitant pea soup is goo...

I have read &/or watched all the choices and loved them all. I still voted for 'lame poll'. Why? Because there is so much more out there. The 'ancient' authors, Verne and Wells come to mind. Lovecraft, E.E. 'Doc' Smith's the 'Lensman' series, A.E. van Vogt's 'The Mixed Men', Burrough's 'John Car...

Alberta1 Alberta1:
Which city's downtown is better? I live in Edmonton but have been to Calgary numerous times and have the view that Calgary's downtown is far more lets say cosmopolitan than Edmonton. Your thoughts?

Who said Dion will decide? The conservatives will pick the time ....June. Not unless Dion brings the government down Remember the Canada Elections Act was amended in the first session of this Parliament. Barring the fall of the Government, by the provisions of the Act, the election will be held on ...
