You might at least quote accurately. That way your lack of interest in democracy becomes more clear. |

Maybe they did. It is almost the percentage who did vote against the Conservatives.
Be that as it may! What do you call a government that rides roughshod over the Will of the people? |

I think Canada is the only country left in the world where you can't opt out of a union, or if you can it's extremely difficult to do so. I think a recent private members bill was passed where all unions will have to disclose all expenditures and donations. Should be interesting. "First they c... |

Actually, the Globe and Mail piece this rant is based on provides a well-thought out article on Canadian Unions. Contrary to what the National Post would have you beleive, most collective bargaining these days is concession bargaining - meaning they are not the result of Unions demanding more than ... |

Since surveys show that 62% of the population wanted the retention of the Registry, don't you think that might be a little more needing of attention by the government than a minority vote rthat was not on the single issue? People vote for a totality of questions. Governments listen and drop those th... |

I fail to see how I am being "daft" when I am saying what almost every source of information on this question says. Here is one more from Natural Resources Canada about how the Canadian dollar tracks oil prices. "Impacts on Canadian Trade and Currency Canada’s dollar is often viewed a... |

So what you seem to be saying, lemmy, is that everyone is out of step but youÉ I gave you a link to a whole page of references most of which would not agree with you. It is also my understanding that foreign money moving to Canada in very significant amounts has been notable during the debt crisis. ... |

Do you live in Bobcaygeon, lemmy. A friend of mine owned a small resort there where a number of us who played soccer together many years ago sometimes held an annual reunion. He has worked in the States for a long time but this was his "pension" and he sold it last year. I have wandered ar... |

I believe that you are simply playing Devil's advocate, lemmy. There is no formula that can be applied. No currency is a straight one on one to a commodity price. In fact, I dfo not think that oil is even close to 10% of our exports. It is, though, the recipient of much more than 10% of new capital ... |

There areliterally, thousands of such references and statements by economists.

Do you know that oil, by dollar value, represents roughly 10% of Canadian exports? Would you then be prepared to concede that at least 90% of the determination of our currency value is NOT based on oil? No, and you know it does not work that way. The argument is about the same as the climate denier... |

Even a Jack Mintz admits that the dollar appreciation is Partly due to oil and that it is hurting Ontario and manufacturing generally. And that would really hurt him. There can be no argument about it that is not simply idoeologically based. Stanford and Mackenzie say it categorically and without mu... |

Are you being deliberately obtuse? My own words say exactly what I am saying now - not a scrap of difference. And the vast majority of economists call the current Canadian dollar a petrodollar. There is no secret in that. It is not an artificial subsidy that is required for Ontario but a return to s... |

It was an April Fool's piece! I posted it because I thought some of you might like to see how real scientists take themselves.
As well as it being a rather good one and superbly written and disguised. |
