Well, it's not like "winning" was ever defined. We're told that we must stay to protect the Afghan people, to fight the Talibans, to rebuild the country and whatever crap politicians can come up with, but we're not told when all of that will be considered done.

And who told you that? Politicians, of course. Liars who sit comfortably in their cozy chairs while they send thousands to die. "Fighting to save lives and protect freedom" sounds so much better than "Fighting to pander to the will of the US government and justify an increase in milit...

Maybe that's because we have absolutely no idea as to what would solve their problems. Maybe we don't even want to know. Giving off money and material goods is certainly a quick way to appease our conscience, but it doesn't solve everything. Did anyone ever bother to *ask* them what they wanted? Tha...

Towards VS Away... It's funny, I never thought about it this way, but I do have to say that it makes much sense to me. We need not to go away from the current system. We need to go towards a better one. Less reactionary, more evolutionary. I like it. The Sharp Wolf "Perfection has no deadline.&...

Yes, maybe denying funding to the government and that kind of things is a start... but what's next? Let's say that, hypothetically, our current system crumbles out of support, what do we have left? There's nothing in place yet to help the people survive and thrive if our system was to suddenly disap...

"Is there ayone in Canada that could do that? Is there a leader in Canada that is above politics and corporations? Where is such a person?" Maybe we all are this person. Maybe we all have the power to create this new system. Maybe it's time for us to stop waiting for this mysterious saviou...

You know, the soldiers are not a good source of information. OF COURSE they believe they're doing a good job, that's what keep them going when they get shot at! Those who disagree do not stay soldiers for long. Let's get this straight: soldiers are tools of murder. Their orders come from politicians...

I don't get it. Why should we trust our political rulers on this any more than on any other issue? Our politicians have proven time and again to be corrupt liars, what makes you think they would genuinely care about the Afghan people? I do believe we should help the Afghan people. But, seriously, ou...

"I wasn't! I was endorsing what you said. We are sacrificing our freedom for the sake of the word, as I had posted." Ah! It seems I misunderstood your post, then. I'm sorry if I came up as agressive or something. Well, since it seems we mostly agree, I guess I have nothing to add. The Shar...

Boflaade, I have absolutely no idea how you got that from what I was saying. I'm talking about real freedom here, not the crap politicians are constantly throwing at us. What I'm arguing for is for the right of individuals to choose what they think is best for them as long as they don't harm others....

"But giving guns to everyone, without even attempting to maintain even a token level of knowledge is utter folly. Myself, I don't care what means people choose to defend themselves with, as long as they are proficient and responsible." I second that. You said it better than I could. The Sh...

"At the cost of freedom itself!"

Erm, could you please explain how letting people choose what they think is best for them would somehow cost them their freedom?

This is no black and white situation.

"In any case, I'll be 80 next month, what kind of karate am I supposed to use against human predators a quarter of my age ?" Yeah, I get the point. Martial arts aren't good for all situations, of course (though they certainly beat traditional sports like football and hockey, in my humble o...

And who would do the monitoring? Based on what? What outrages *you*? What if it's different from what outrages *me*? What if I wanted to read the article, in an informative way? Even if something has been written as propaganda, it can make for interesting readings and discussions. We must take care ...
