$1:
After thousands of years of practice, you might have imagined that every possible means of inflicting pain had already been devised. But you should never underestimate the human capacity for invention. United States interrogators, we now discover, have found a new way of destroying a human being.

In early December, defense lawyers acting for Jose Padilla, a US citizen detained as an "enemy combatant," released a video showing a mission fraught with deadly risk -- taking him to the prison dentist. A group of masked guards in riot gear shackled his legs and hands, blindfolded him with black-out goggles and shut off his hearing with headphones, then marched him down the prison corridor.

Is Padilla really that dangerous? Far from it: his warders describe him as so docile and inactive that he could be mistaken for "a piece of furniture." The purpose of these measures appeared to be to sustain the regime under which he had lived for over three years: total sensory deprivation. He had been kept in a blacked-out cell, unable to see or hear anything beyond it. Most importantly, he had no human contact, except for being bounced off the walls from time to time by his interrogators. As a result, he appears to have lost his mind. I don't mean this metaphorically. I mean that his mind is no longer there.

This American does not approve of torture..... I would rather just kill our enemies.

For as long as we have touted the Geneva Convention, WWII Germany/Italy are the only enemies that have respected it. None of our other enemies have given proper treatment to our captured American soldiers.

- not the Japanese
- not the Russians
- not the North Koreans
- not the North Vietnamese
- not islamo-fascist

This tells me something - Don't get too hung up on the Geneva Convention that nobody else respects and when we go to war... just kill'em.

To echo Bill Hicks, the benefit of following the Geneva Convention is not that the other side follows it too. The benefit: allies. When you torture (or invade countries on the basis of lies) you do it alone.

Besides, the system was made to protect the public from oppression and corruption. Innocence until proven guilty, that is one of the American ideals since the country's founding. But the way things are going, people don't care about liberty any more, as long as they are safe from the Islamofascists who are going to attack by the millions any day now.

Yeah I support Hicks' view. If you want respect from other countries you need to follow the rules. Also, the pictures we all saw in the news when amercian soldiers took photografs with iraq's dead soldiers don't really help.... :?

... Agree that waterboarding is torture. If it was being done to me... yup! Yea, that was wrong and a mistake. Americans do not support torture and can self correct when a mistake is made.

Karma brought the A-Bomb to Imperial Japan... so that worked out.

North Korea and Russia... Hmmmm Well... they are in their own hell.

Islamo-fascists.... why not help them to paradise and their seventy virgins? Yes... ask them... they don't want to live.... only long enough to kill me.

Be glad that I am not in charge... If I captured non-uniformed enemy combatant.. before killing him, I would find out where he was from and attack his village and take out his imam no matter what country he was from.... Kind of the same idea as Sherman's March through Georgia. That worked.
