Guy_Fawkes Guy_Fawkes: Ted Turner actually funded that show despite is dismal ratings, he wanted to teach kids environmentalism. Funny some people view Ted as a Titian of capitalism. Yet his show was anti-capitalism at it's best. Eco-Villians Hoggish Greedly- represents the dangers of overconsumption and greed Looten Plunder - epresents the evils of uncontrolled capitalism and unethical business actions Sly Sludge- represents ignorance and the dangers of short-term thinking. Duke Nukem- represents the misuse of nuclear power (Not kicking A and getting all the strippers) Verminous Skumm- represents the evils of poor sanitation and crime Dr. Blight - represents the dangers of uncontrolled technology and unethical scientific experimentation Zarm- Represents war and destruction.

Oh I know, it gets even nuttier, Ted has also been rumored to have co written some episodes. You have to remember though back in the early 90's it was VERY trendy to be environmentaly conscious. Hell look at some of the cast they got on the show: Whoopi Goldberg LeVar Burton (this isnt much of a shock since he was also working reading rainbow at the time) Edward Asner James Coburn Meg Ryan Tim Curry John Ratzenberger Martin Sheen Jeff Goldblum Sting ect..

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada: The interesting thing I notice is that people aren't fans of greed. Corporates and their representatives notice and know this.
So they use our hatred of greed.... for greed...
It's all very strange. I dont have anything wrong with greed, its basic animal nature to be greedy and is quite healthy, its unethical greed I have an issue with.

greed tends to create a more fair civilization than religion ever created.

ASLplease ASLplease: greed tends to create a more fair civilization than religion ever created. I wouldn't say that is a fair comparison at all; you might as well say "greed tends to create a more fair civilization than kindergarden has ever created" Apples and oranges really... [edit: for clarity]

Back to the topic at hand though, you cant just blindly Islamify a product and think it is going to be embraced. Many many things are going to have to change in the middle east before the islamic world there will accept something as alien as a comic book.

BTW folks Muslims already have a comic book $1: The 99 are ordinary teenagers and adults from across the globe, who come into possession of one of the 99 magical Noor Stones (Ahjar Al Noor, Stones of Light) and find themselves empowered in a specific manner. All dilemmas faced by The 99 will be overcome through the combined powers of three or more members. Through this, The 99 series aims to promote values such as cooperation and unity throughout the Islamic world. Although the series is not religious, it aims to communicate Islamic virtues which are, as viewed by Dr. Al-Mutawa, universal in nature. The concept of The 99 is based on the 99 attributes of Allah. Many of these names refer to characteristics that can be possessed by human individuals. For example – generosity, strength, faithfulness, wisdom are all virtues encouraged by a number of faiths. In compliance with Islamic tradition, the Arabic version of the aliases of each of the 99 is written without the definite article "Al-", because use of this precise form is exclusive to Allah. This serves to remind that The 99 are only mortals, and sets them as human role models, with their qualities and weaknesses. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_99

Well as see greed as having more than someone else and not being bothered by that fact. I just spent $250 on baby clothes and items that he will use for no more than 6 months, while the same money could have outfit 5 homeless people for a year. I am greedy, I want my child to be comfortable with the best I can afford. Hell even buying pampers over noname and/or cloth diapers is greedy.

The_Doctor The_Doctor: Very interesting, not what I expected, still Im not happy with the overtly religious tones. I would love to see what effect this franchise has taken in 10 years.
