A day or so after the bailout was torpedoed, the UAW officials are accusing state lawmakers, with quite a bit of name-calling, of trying to break up the unions on behalf of the foreign automakers.

Wasn't the bailout scuttled because the UAW refused to give wage and benifit concessions, or was this just the straw that broke the camel's back?

The fix was in. There was no way the deal was going to happen, either the unions accept the terms and the contracts all end up back on the table with the unions in no position to bargain at all or they end up out of work. Either way a huge FU to the unions.
