ManifestDestiny ManifestDestiny: Scape Scape: Better yet, show me where he openly slagged the US military Some of your politicians do a good enough job!Carolyn Parrish was a controversial Canadian MP known for making anti-American statements. Among other things, she called Americans "bastards" and "idiots." After this show and its "distribution" on youtube, Carolyn probably has more support than ever. I would not be surprised if she becomes the next mayor of Mississauga.

That anti-Americanism is easily inflamed by ignorant comments by the uneducated.
Todays National Post cartoon sums it up. I don't think you will find a Canadian that wasn't insulted by this blunder by Fox. Personally I won't be watching Fox again until this guy is fired.

Scape Scape: Rick Mercer to Fox: Bullying is not satire$1: Renowned comedian and political satirist Rick Mercer has a few words of advice for the Fox News panelists who incited the Canadian government to demand an apology for their mocking of the Canadian military.
“If you're going to do satire, three of the most important rules are you have to tell the truth, you can't be a bully and don't be an asshole,” said Mr. Mercer, who hosts his own show on CBC. “Being a bully is not satire.”
Mr. Mercer learned of the controversial comments, made by Greg Gutfeld, host of the late-night program Red Eye with Gret Gutfeld after fans of his program began inundating his inbox with clips of an episode that aired on March 17.
On that show, broadcast at 3 a.m., Mr. Gutfeld mocked Lt.-Gen Andrew Leslie, chief of land staff for the Canadian Military, for suggesting earlier this month that the military may need to take a year-long break in operations due to personnel and equipment shortages.
“Once their Afghan mission winds down some time in 2011, certain members of the Canadian military are looking to take a much-deserved break. And by certain members I mean all of them,” Mr. Gutfeld said. “Meaning, the Canadian military wants to take a breather to do some yoga, paint landscapes, run on the beach in gorgeous white Capri pants.”
In his four-minute segment, Mr. Gutfeld asked the other three members of his panel: “Isn't this the perfect time to invade this ridiculous country? They have no army!”
Another panelist Doug Benson, a comedian, replied: “I didn't even know they were in the war. I thought that's where you go when you don't want to fight. Go chill in Canada.”
The segment, which has angered Canadians across the country, prompted the Canadian government to demand an apology from Fox News for “despicable” comments.
If you want good natured satire of Canada, watch the Simpsons episode when they go to Toronto. Now that was good natured ribbing about Canada; poking fun at our weak dollar, the cleanliness of our cities in comparison to American cities, even the shot at our national basketball team. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/s ... 2_20469848

JackCoiner JackCoiner: Wow - lots of strong feelings about this. I think that reading through the posts here, no-one is defending Gutfeld's stance or his arrogant and ignorant display. I tend to agree with the poster who mentions he's on a 3am Fox show and isn't taken seriously by anyone so relax, he's not indicative of the average American. I think perhaps the strong feelings are coming from a larger issue and that is how Canada is seen by the US. Cramming vilification up each others' noses isn't going to do anything; but perhaps channeling that to the 'news' show's inbox might make you feel better. This is the address: [email protected] and my entry - feel free to paraphrase or just outright use it. _______________________________________ Sent to [email protected]Gutfeld: You were "misunderstood"? That's what you're going with for an apology? You arrogant, juvenile show-boat, how can you think apologizing in that manner could ever be construed as heart felt. If you want to apologize do so without reservation. I think most Canadians (probably Americans too) 'understood' exactly what you were doing - thoughtlessly punch-lining a neighbour and ally in a cheap bid for a clever laugh. You acted like a twelve year old desperate for attention and just realizing that making fun of people can get it done. Your cronies who jumped on board are just as bad and their shameful ignorance coupled with an all too familiar arrogance just made it that much worse. Most Canadians are more than happy to laugh at themselves, we realize that at a 10th of the population base, we live in the shadow of a much bigger entity. We are happy to play the role of a calm, polite, non-violent, socialist, beer-drinking group. But why would you feel the need to belittle our efforts in joining the global battle against terrorism? I would say that at the rate you Americans are going, you would welcome all the help you could get - even if it only amounts to moral aid. Canada declares that 'we are in support of you' and you declare an arrogant indifference to get a cheap laugh. One hundred and sixteen fine young Canadians have made the ultimate sacrifice in our 'little army' - I'm betting their families "understand" your apology and they understand it's as worthless as your sense of humour. Incredibly appalled Canadian. _____________________________________________________________ That's a lot nicer than the note I sent.

Scape Scape: I can't belive/understand the legs on this story. Surreal. I think it was because there was a little bit of something that every Canadian could take offence to in that 5 minute rant. For me, it was everything. I don't think I could find any humour in anything they said. Other than their own pathetic 'careers'.
