Here's hoping that they find it and everyone onboard is safe. I could be 100% wrong but, given the circumstances of the disappearance my guess would be that we'll be issuing condolences to the families of the passengers and crew in the near future. :(

Oil patch spotted near where the plane last was in contact. Doesn't look good.

2 Westerners, the Italian and the Austrian, are alive and not on the plane.

They had reported their passports stolen up to 2 years ago.

So at least 2 people on that flight are not who they claimed to be.

Who's got a grudge against Malaysia, if this is terrorism?

With all the data bases used for security how would they let someone on the plane with a passport that's been swiped or lost years ago?

Malaysian airport security might not be a very hard nut to crack...

Indonesia. Extremist Muslims as well, especially since this was a flight filled with Chinese.

You'll have to explain that a bit. Malaysia is Muslim as well. I doubt it Indonesia is sending suicide bombers anywhere, they're one of the most moderate Islamic states. More so than Malaysia I would have thought. Haven't heard of any terror groups that have a hardon for Malaysia. The only ones going after China seem to be the Uyghurs, and they don't seem to have the sophistication to pull something like this off. So fare none of the bona fide jihadi groups seem to have shown any interest in taking up the Uyghur cause.

Who says terrorism? How about simple crime: murder or an insurance job?

I was just tossing out possibilities. The fact that they are a moderate Muslim state is a good enough reason as any to target Malaysia, and the fact both Malaysia and Indonesia are visited by many businessmen and tourists also encourages terrorism (not tourism  ). Jemaah Islamiyah is a likely suspect, being responsible for the Bali bombing in 2002, and have attempted attacks in Malaysia before (in 2008, two Jemaah Islamiyah terrorists were arrested in a plan to blow up the mall under the Petronas Towers. A plane full of infidels is as good of a target as any.

Abu Sayyaf would be another group who might be willing to carry it out, since they generally operate in the southern Philippines, and are basically scum of the highest order. Might be a bit more complex for them though, but...not impossible.

Indonesia has had tensions with Malaysia over territorial borders and maritime rights, but, I highly doubt they were involved. It's possible, but highly unlikely. Indonesia isn't Pakistan, but, some rogue operation can be theoretically possible.

Mechanical failure is still a possibility

If it was terrorism then the group responsible likely would have already said so. Those idiots tend to like getting the recognition right away.

Mechanical failure is very possible. I hope they are able to locate some wreckage and soon to help determine what happened. Whatever the cause, it appears that it was very sudden end for the victims since the flight crew apparently did not even have time to indicate any distress.
