No shocker there, most Canadian don't want to be seen as resting on laurels. Now convince the cons and the libs this is a vote getter. When Canada get refused to join AUKUS that sting could at last motivate a boot up the ass of the political elites.

Canadians say they want it, but when push really comes to shove, they want social programs or tax cuts more than defence spending. That's why neither major party puts any effort into defence, because they know they Canadians won't hold their feet to the fire on this.

Singh and the Dippers have outright said they won't support more defence spending, so Trudeau's hands are tied, and I think he likes it that way. I honestly believe he'd prefer to spend on social programs than tanks and fighter planes if he can.

False premise. It's not an either or choice. With a 2 trillion dollar economy we can afford both.

I agree we can afford both, but far too many voters don't want to spend $77 billion on new frigates, they'd rather spend that tax cuts or on national daycare or some other social program (depending on which party they vote for).

Scape is correct, it is possible to do both.

Or you could be a good Tory and campaign you'll boost defence spending and kiss off the revenue stream from the carbon tax completely and reduce all the other taxes too.
