Canada turned down a United Nations request to take command of the peacekeeping mission in Congo and will instead devote its resources to Afghanistan.

Certain people like to spew bull about how countries like India, Pakistan, etc. are the peacekeeping leaders today and Canada has likewise fallen from grace.

Anyone know why third world countries are leading troop contributors?

    Anyone?

Well I'll tell you why, the UN actually pays troop supplying countries based on the number of troops they provide. Now if you are a third world backwater like Pakistan lets say, they pay their troops a pittance and could actually PROFIT from sending troops on peacekeeping missions.

Now what the UN pays per soldier would not even begin to cover the costs for us much less allow us to profit like certain countries do.

Regardless, UN is as useless as tits on a bull and we should abandon it to its fate.

We've already learned the hard way. There ain't nothing Canada can do, and to show up there would be a repeat of Rwanda all over again. No thank you.

    Dead to rights, saturn_656!
This mission is a classic goat rodeo of typical UN proportions, including many examples of criminal sale of aid or supplies and child abuse. If the UN wants someone to clean up their mess or witness another genocide, it can hire Heraldo Reveras.
