Soldiers in the convoy tried repeatedly to get the driver to turn away, eventually firing a warning shot from a rifle.

"Afghan Civilian Ignores Repeated Warnings, Canadians Forced To Engage" would have been a more accurate title.

I agree. Frankly, i dont understand how these civilians cant or wont

Me thinks they are doing it on purpose, so the public will hate us. Either that or they are just retarted or shitty drivers or a little bit of both. Retarted Shitty Drivers.

    I think its either:

a)Dont think they will be shot at
    b)They are fucking High
    c)They want to die
e)frustrated about not being able to drive on the road when they want

What ever the reason the rules where set in place when ISAF was formed, and have been the same for 7 years now. When a person comes danger close to a convoy they will be stopped.

Perhaps they think its their country and we should be deflecting to their viewpoint?

If we aren't willing to adjust to their belief that we only fire on absolutely confirmed targets then we are encouraged to leave.

You know what? Rather then killing innocent afghans and justifying its for their own good why don't we just leave?

    Sounds good.

    We are leaving, in 2011.
Most of them would rather follow the rules, and be able to have a call or prayer and follow their own version of the Muslim faith. Something they couldnt do under the taliban.
When a vehicle comes within 10m of a convoy it is confirmed as a target. Thats what most of these reports leave out, when these vehicles are shot at they are only two car lengths away and are speeding toward the convoy.

We are cutting and running in 2011? 8O

What are you? A commie liberal?

I understand entirely why soldiers fire on any car in defence. They have every right to defend their life regardless of anything else.

We should not be there to force them to make that choice regardless of other conditions.

    Bring them home now.

How the hell are soldiers supposed to "confirm" whether an approaching vehicle is a VBIED or just some dumb-ass driver not obeying the same rules that have been in place for the last 7+ years? If you can figure that one out I'm sure they'd like to know.

Its not a cut and run, if you pay attention to what little comes from the interviews with the military. We are helping the Afghan military mold itself into a real fighting force that can protect itself without the help of ISAF.
Oh and after 2011 the majority of the Canadian soldiers will be pulled out but the OMLT will still be working to train new ANA and ANP.

They aren't. They can't. Thats the point.

We are fighting a war where we cannot tell friend from foe and thats a losing war my friend.

So what happens is that for some reason some poor civilian gets killed and called "a dumb ass driver" by non-sympathetic occupiers and the insurgency grows.

They kill civilians and we get blamed and the insurgency grows.

We defend ourselves and kill civilians and the insurgency grows.

We try and stop the heroin trade we invigorized and the insurgency grows.

We try and stop certian cultural practices we find repugnant and the insurgency grows.

7 years later and its worse then ever. We fought 2 world wars in that time.

    Its time to leave.

They kill civilians and we get blamed and the insurgency grows. - thats hard to actually prove one way or the other.

We defend ourselves and kill civilians and the insurgency grows. - some times this is true sometimes not. More insurgents join due to the lack of jobs available after the poppy season they do over revenge.

We try and stop the heroin trade we invigorized and the insurgency grows. - The ANP does that now.

We try and stop certian cultural practices we find repugnant and the insurgency grows. - No one does that in fact diverse cultural practices are encouraged

7 years later and its worse then ever. - thats quite false, Kabul is becoming quite a vibrant city, more more the quality of life is being improved in the Helmand and Kandahar. Clean water, efficient hospitals and electricity is becoming available to areas which had never had it before. It seems that we only hear about the bad stuff.

We fought 2 world wars in that time. - you cant compare wars that happened more than 55 years ago.

Its time to leave. - and we are in 3 years from now

The Libs were commie cowards for negotiating a 2011 exit date.

    Fuck. Why say anything more.
