Stupid F'in tourists approach a wild black bear and start taking pics, the bear feels cornered or threatened at some point and does what comes naturally to it and defends itself. What do we do, kill the bear, maybe the stupid tourists who actually caused this should be treated in kind. Poor bear.
We have pretty good success with the karelian bear dog's here, the combination of dogs, bear bangers, and rubber bullets puts the run on them. They have to be all used at once to be effective and were just getting into useing them on the cougars and also big horn sheep on the highway.
We had a mom and 3 cubs in my town last weekend and they were moved far from town after being trapped.
"martin14" said i agree QBC, should have shot the tourist.
and people should take better care of their garbage, to help the bears stay away.
For sure,I have a restaraunt across the alley with a dumpster usually full of meat scraps, right now the bears seem to be focusing on the apples though.
They should have signs like the government puts up in public places in Nunavut about the bears.
That particular poster is from Rankin inlet where they shot maybe 4 trouble polar bears that came into town this year, whistler shot ten bears, sound's like some public education for the gorby's is needed.
Silly tourists don't understand wildlife. Oh, well. But I can understand killing the bear because once they aren't scared of people anymore they can get really dangerous.
Been there and done that lily, I was up there in the early '70s....Sunday afternoon, a six pack of beer and off to the D'Arcy Zoo.....As I pointed out previously, the reason there to be more bears is that we are moving farther and farther into the areas they have called home for thousands upon thousands of years. Also it's easier to see a bear in the city, or subdivision than it is to see one in the dense forest....that was there 20 years ago....As for walking up to a bear to take pictures.....somebody could really use a good whup up the side of his head with a 2X4!
I am, as you might have guessed, also a fervent supporter of:
Humans continually encroach on their habitats and then are shocked, when the bears (cougars, wolves, whichever) "attack" their neighbourhood. The animals were here before we were. We have a tendency to forget that. It's about time we respected that fact again.
Just for the record - I think the aussie should have been penalized somehow as well. Just for being stupid.
Hyack hit the nail on the head. We humans cannot get it through our thick skulls that they were here first and shouldn't be surprised when they refuse to give ground. Tourists are generally stupid wherever they are. So many people have spent so much time inside away from nature that they have no clue how to interact with it. They visit the zoo and see the animals there and watch the "experts" on the wildlife specials and think that they are experts on wildlife behaviour.
Tie the bear's carcass to the tourist and make him carry it around a while as a reminder of his stupidity.

At least one limb,Then put his picture on a poster at all the airports.
