If they want to give Canadian businesses a good boost to carry them through the recession they should do a major cut in payroll taxes and CPP/EI contributions instead. I'd sooner see this instead of another GST cut.
The cuts to the GST was pointless Political Theatre to begin with, but changing the rate at this time is just bad timing IMO. Wait for the Recession to end and GDP Growth to return, raise it back up, Cut Income Taxes appropriately as needed based off Surplusses.

I am not in favour of cutting the GST, I rather see money going into education and infrastructure.
I'm not either as i put it on my invoices,7% would be nicer then 5 for sure.
It is a fair tax though,hitting all Canadians equally.
