Industry Minister Tony Clement has dismissed growing calls for him to reverse his decision to scrap the mandatory long-form census, saying he and Prime Minister Stephen Harper are on the same page on the issue.

Are the citizens complaining about this? So far it's been politicians bitching. Do Canadians even care?

Should the long-form census be mandatory or voluntary?

A census should be mandatory and why not? Taxes are mandatory, too, and I don't hear anyone bitching about how that violates their rights.

Excuse my ignorance, I was overseas last time and never got one so its been awhile since I took one, not even sure I ever had to do a long form either, but isn't at least the long form Anonymous?

if you follow what people are saying on twitter they DO care. Census has been a top trending topic on Canadian twitter for over a week. Its actualy a bit surprising how much people care and are vocal about it. Not just twitter either, Facebook and news site comments.

Are they really useful ? I heard Maxime Bernier yesterday saying that in the last census, 25,000 persons were part of the Star Wars religion. The sanction for not filling the long form census is a 500$ and up to 3 years of prison. As Bernier said, a lot of people just write anything to get rid of it.

I'm talking about the long form, not the normal one. That one needs to stay.
