A classified document that was part of a torrent of secret files released to the WikiLeaks website suggests four Canadian soldiers died from friendly fire, not a Taliban attack, in a 2006 incident.

    Again, seriously?

It's going to get way worse than the first incident was if it turns out that records were deliberately fudged as part of a cover-up. This one could get really bad for everyone involved if it goes far enough.

Wait for it, there is another wave of 15000 of docs to be released. Maybe that will exonerate everyone.

    Wouldn't that be a kicker?

Assange, who was in London on Monday defending his decision to publish, stressed that WikiLeaks withheld at least 15,000 documents to avoid jeopardizing military operations.

Id like to see this material taken seriously and investigated, and new policies, if not prosecutions, result from it, Assange said.

Yup, looks like the Americans killed more of our soldiers.

I was wondering about the lack of friendly fire incidents, I wonder how many of our boys have really been killed by friendly fire.

In the end it really doesnt matter, it is horrible but, finding out years after the fact that they have been killed by Americans wont change a thing. Documents are kept secret for a reason.

Most of the time that reason is to stop the public from becoming outraged over the fact it is so hard for people to keep track of where the troops are. They cover it up to prevent an outrage, when this kind of leak occurs people are now more pissed than ever that we were lied to about how some of our soldiers died and would have never been told.

There is no need for secrecy on something like this, there was no secret operation that would have been exposed.

If everyone was perfect like us Canadians the world would be an awesome place.

If this were a one time thing it would be something different, but America has been getting a rep for being just as effective at killing allies as they are at killing enemies. The fact one was finally revealed to have been covered up brings to question how many more of these events are actually happening.

NOT according to the mother of one of the soldiers killed. Although she was only going by first hand sources.......unlike the media.

+1. I heard about the family's pain to having to relive this through an untrue story, long before I heard of the actual 'friendly fire' incident.

One has to wonder though, why it would be written up as blue on blue in the US records, if it wasn't.

Gen. Rick Hillier's outlook on the erroneous reports being leaked:

Gen. Rick Hillier (ret.) said that erroneous reporting often occurs, given the size of the bureaucracy guiding the war in Afghanistan.

He said that first reports are often based on flimsy evidence and need to be checked and re-checked before the truth is verified.

"I had a rule: first reports are always wrong, second reports and third reports are equally wrong, and only after that do you start to get to the truth."

He said that several drafts of military reports are often completed, but earlier versions are kept around. Some of those raw reports were leaked on Monday.

"I think that is what happened in this case," said Hillier, speaking to CTV News Channel from Ottawa on Tuesday.
