U.S. President Barack Obama on Friday forcefully endorsed building a mosque near ground zero, saying the country's founding principles demanded no less.
Could you expect him to say anything else? As President he swore to defend the Constituion of the US which is pretty clear on the issue of freedom of Religion.
People may not like it but they can't do much about it, at least until the mid term elections when we'll likely see just how beloved their current President and his views are.
"Arctic_Menace" said I love how so many Republicans swear to uphold the Constitution, but only when it applies or can be twisted to their set values. God Bless America.
Kinda like when Democrats want to take away my Second ammendment right??
George W. Bush would have done and said the exact same thing. Bush, no matter how deeply flawed and incorrect his overall strategy turned out to be, always made it clear that the important difference was always between a war against Islamist terrorism and an unneccessary and unwinnable civilizational war against all Muslims. This is one of the few things that I actually miss Bush for, because apparently he was the last one on the right wing who was capable of holding back the lunatics clamouring for an endless war between civilizations. For lack of any better term, it seems that his successors and imitators are demanding nothing less than a Christian jihad.
Ok think for a second this is not a mosque they are putting up but a culteral center. Why put one near or around ground zero? For what purpose do they wish to put a muslim culteral center at a site that fellow muslims caused such pain and death?
When has a culteral center become a place of worship? Last I heard muslims generaly worshiped in mosques. Sense they are not putting a mosque on the site this is not a freedom of religion issue and thus the first amendment usage carrys no weight here.
It's a mosque and cultural center. So what's your sacred radius, where would you allow them to build it? And any other religions or ethnicities you would ban from ground zero? Arabs were involved in 9/11 - no Arab businesses?

Then I'll ask you this why do they want to put one there?
Now andyt from what i've seen you're perty much anti US in your posting. So lets go and set up a US cultural center and Chritian center right next door to you where we will ring church bells and have people bosting the greatness of the US. You've expressed your dislike for the US site being next door to you, yet the Canadian Gov. has forced you to have it there, so tuff on you, tolerate it.
