Northern Ontario MP Bruce Hyer quit the NDP caucus today, saying he can better represent his constituents as an Independent MP.

    is the resignation the result of being excluded from the 'shadow' cabinet or is it really on principle?

    Your point is valid. I would have gone with principal until the justifiacation of being excluded from the shadow cabinet. Sort of threw all the other justifications out the window.

    On the other hand I can see why a northern Ontario MP would side with the Conservatives on the long gun registry. On this piece of legislation he would be representing the majority of his constituents. If he is a strong believer of NDP values then he would take his lumps a stay within the party.

    Is it a a falling out now that Jack is not there as a binding force? I do not have enough information to say one way or another.
